Hermione’s journey begins with a lump in her throat, a rucksack over her shoulder, hastily packed, and a ticket reading Penzance to Aberdeen (standard class) between her shaky fingers. If she doesn’t do this now, she never will.

Draco’s journey starts with a bundle of nerves tucked under his gut that have been growing day by day for months. On this day, all he wants is to be left in peace and quiet. Before he has to face reality in the morning. He’s in first class. The silent cabin.

In standard class, five cabins back from first, Hermione checks her bag and her stomach drops. She hasn’t packed anything to keep her busy on this trip. Her book still lies on Ron’s bedside table. All she has is a change of clothes, a few snacks for the journey and her phone.

She thinks that at least travelling through the Cornwall countryside is beautiful enough for her to simply watch through the window. As she’s drifting off to sleep with the clouds rolling overhead, she sees a string of numbers that have been dug into the table.

And, with an urge to just be silly and not herself, on today of all days, as she leaves her life behind her, she finds no harm in just… Texting the number. To see what might happen.
