Work Text:
Koby let out a sigh as he disembarked from the boat at the resort. The palace was beautiful, boasting white sand beaches and numerous scenic walks adorned with palm trees throughout the island. Small shops and well-appointed rooms with ocean-side views were visible from where he stood. As he surveyed the surroundings, Koby could understand why this place was so highly regarded as a destination. It was beloved for a reason. Taking a deep breath, the pink-haired marine adjusted his glasses and made his way toward the check-in counter to get settled into his room.
The accommodations were impressive—a spacious room with a large king-size bed and an appealing setup. Despite the luxury, Koby found the room to be more than he needed. After stowing his belongings, he changed into blue and white swim trunks and headed toward the beach. Though he should have been content, the knowledge that this was a vacation nagged at him. He couldn't shake the feeling that he could be out there helping people and performing good deeds.
Walking along the beach, he watched the tranquil waves rolling in. It was peaceful, yet his thoughts were consumed by ways to work or train even during this forced vacation. Apparently, he had been pushing himself too hard, and his workaholic tendencies were not viewed favorably by everyone he worked for. Determined to make the most of it, the pink-haired blur of energy began running to incorporate some form of a workout. It was better than doing nothing, and he nodded, smiled, or waved at people as he passed by.
Koby's workout persisted throughout the entire morning until an unexpected incident occurred. A young girl tripped right in front of him, prompting him to halt abruptly to avoid any harm to her. He managed to jump in time, but upon landing, he awkwardly twisted his right ankle on the sandy ground. Although not a major injury, it proved to be an annoyance. True to his nature, Koby prioritized the well-being of the girl and went to check on her.
"Hey there, little miss. Are you okay? You're not hurt, right?" he inquired, his concern for her well-being overshadowing any worry about his own condition.
"Yeah, I'm fine," she replied, a bit embarrassed by her mistake. She hastily departed; her embarrassment evident for having walked in front of someone.
Koby got up and walked before stopping and letting out a sigh. He would have to be careful and cut down on how much working out he did with the ankle; he wasn’t even sure a doctor was around.
“Hey, need help there,” he heard, turning his head to see a beautiful short dark-haired woman in a two-piece swimsuit. Her slender frame fit her perfectly, and as he looked at her, Koby turned a fair bit pink.
Startled by her offer, Koby managed a sheepish smile. "Oh, um, yeah. I twisted my ankle a bit back there," he admitted, trying not to let his embarrassment show.
The woman, Shizune, approached with a reassuring smile. "Let me take a look," she said, kneeling down to examine his ankle. Koby couldn't help but notice her gentle touch as she assessed the injury.
To his surprise, Shizune's hands emitted a soft, healing glow as she applied her medical ninjutsu. The pain in Koby's ankle gradually eased, and he marveled at her skill. "You're not an ordinary vacationer, are you?" he asked, curiosity mingling with gratitude.
Shizune chuckled. "No, I have some medical training. It comes in handy in situations like these."
Shizune finished her healing, and Koby couldn't help but be taken by the beautiful, kind woman in front of him. Gratitude filled his voice as he spoke, "Thank you," looking down with a soft smile. "I was forced to take a vacation; it seems my bosses thought I was being too much of a workaholic and needed time away from the job."
Shizune's eyes reflected understanding as she straightened up. "Sometimes, we all need a break, even if it's forced. It's an opportunity to recharge and focus on things other than work," she said, her gaze meeting Koby's. "And who knows, you might discover something new and unexpected during this time."
Koby took a moment to gather himself before expressing, "Well, I don’t know anyone, and I am not good at this relaxing thing. I always try to work as hard as possible because people depend on me." He reasoned, "So, um, would you mind if I hung out with you, miss?" He paused, adding, "Oh, right um, my name is Koby. It's nice to meet you."
"I'm Shizune. It's nice to meet you, Koby-kun, and yes, I would very much enjoy that too," she replied with a warm smile. "Why don’t we go for a walk, see what is on the island? I just got here late last night, so I haven’t seen anything."
Koby felt a sense of relief and genuine happiness. "That sounds like a great idea. Lead the way, Shizune," he said, falling into step beside her as they began their stroll along the beach.
The walk was delightful, the long trail around the island offering isolated spots where Koby and Shizune could enjoy the serenity. With each step, Koby found himself appreciating the time spent with Shizune, his heart quickening with every shared moment. He sensed her kindness, dedication, and spirit, and a comforting peace enveloped him whenever she was near.
As they strolled, Koby shared stories about his experiences as a mentee under a naval hero, while Shizune reciprocated with tales from her life as a ninja. Koby found the world of ninjutsu fascinating, and Shizune's abilities only deepened his admiration for her. In his eyes, she was truly amazing and special. The two discovered they had much in common, from their dedication to their respective roles to the kindness they showed to others. They even shared the bond of finding parental figures in their mentors, both of whom were legends in their own right.
The connection between them grew stronger with each story exchanged, solidifying the foundation of their budding romance. Under the setting sun, Koby and Shizune found not only common ground but also a shared understanding that transcended their different worlds.
Koby stopped as the sun dipped below the horizon, returning them to where they had started. "Shizune-san, um, how long are you on this island?" he asked curiously, eager to know how much time he might have to spend with her.
Shizune smiled, her eyes reflecting the fading sunlight. "I have a bit more time here; I planned for an extended stay. I wanted a break from my usual responsibilities," she replied.
A sense of relief washed over Koby. "That's great to hear. I was hoping we could spend more time together," he admitted, a hint of shyness coloring his words.
Shizune's smile widened. "I would like that too, Koby-kun. This island has more to offer, and it would be nice to explore it with someone."
“Okay, um, how about dinner, you and me, Shizune-san,” Koby asked as he wanted to spend time with her.
Shizune's eyes sparkled with warmth as she considered Koby's invitation. "Dinner sounds wonderful, Koby-kun," she replied, her smile holding a hint of anticipation. "I'm looking forward to it. Let's enjoy the evening together."
The two of them would walk slowly towards the lovely area where dinner was being served, an open pit with plenty of food and tables for people to get around and enjoy themselves. It was a lively place and the two would soon be there as well. Ham, pineapple, various local berries were present with some exotic vegetables as well to try out. Everything was completely new to Shizune, and mostly new to Koby.
The two of them strolled leisurely toward the delightful area where dinner was being served—an open pit with plenty of food and tables for people to gather and enjoy themselves. The atmosphere was lively, and they would soon join the vibrant scene. Ham, pineapple, various local berries, and exotic vegetables were present, offering a diverse array of flavors to explore. Everything was completely new to Shizune, and mostly new to Koby.
As they approached the food spread, Koby gestured toward the array of dishes. "Feel free to try anything you like, Shizune-san. It's a mix of local specialties, and I'm sure you'll find something interesting."
Shizune's eyes lit up with curiosity as she surveyed the offerings. "Thank you, Koby-kun. I'm excited to experience the local cuisine," she said, her genuine enthusiasm matching the festive atmosphere around them.
The two of them began sampling various dishes, sharing their thoughts and preferences. The exotic flavors and the lively ambiance created a perfect setting for them to continue getting to know each other.
"This all is really good, I can see why people like it," Koby remarked, savoring the flavors as he sat rather close to the medical ninja, feeling a magnetic pull towards her. He found himself drawn to Shizune, not just for the delicious food but also captivated by her beauty.
"Hey, look, they are doing a dance. Do you think your ankle is able to handle some dancing?" Shizune asked, her gaze shifting towards the dance floor. The feelings that the young marine officer was experiencing were far from one-directional.
"Yeah, it's worth a shot. I'm sure it will be fine. I can handle a small twisted ankle and dance, no problem. Plus, your work on it was so great too," Koby said as he got up, having finished his food, and offered Shizune a hand.
Shizune smiled appreciatively and accepted Koby's hand. "Lead the way, Koby-kun. Let's enjoy the dance," she replied, her eyes reflecting a mix of excitement and warmth.
The two of them danced closely together, relishing each other's company. A mutual attraction was growing as time went on, unfazed by the fact that Shizune was a good nine years older than Koby. Similarly, Koby's younger age compared to Shizune didn't seem to matter to the young man. Their connection transcended such considerations as they enjoyed the dance, each moment bringing them closer.
The dance ended with both of them standing rather close to each other. In a bold move, Koby decided to make his intentions clear. His lips crossed the gap and pressed against Shizune’s, his hands gently resting on her waist as the kiss lingered. In that moment, warmth, joy, affection, and desire blended in the tender exchange, expressing the blossoming connection between them.
As their lips parted, Koby looked into Shizune's eyes, a mix of uncertainty and anticipation in his gaze. Shizune, however, responded with a soft, genuine smile that conveyed her own feelings.
"That was unexpected, Koby-kun," she said, her voice carrying a warmth that matched the lingering connection between them.
Koby, still holding Shizune close, offered a sheepish grin. "I hope it wasn't too forward. I just... felt like it was the right moment."
Shizune chuckled lightly, brushing a strand of hair from Koby's face. "No, it was a pleasant surprise. I enjoyed it." Her gaze held a certain depth, signaling that the kiss had sparked something meaningful.
Encouraged by Shizune's response, Koby continued, "I'm glad.I know our time here is limited, and I didn’t think it wise to waste our time beating around the bush as it were.”
Shizune's gaze softened, and she leaned in for a brief, sweet kiss. "I'm looking forward to spending more time with you, Koby-kun. Let's make the most of our time here," she said, her words carrying a promise of shared moments and a deeper connection.
The evening continued with Koby and Shizune exploring the island, hand in hand, as they shared stories, laughter, and the growing connection between them. The moon cast a gentle glow on the landscape, creating a magical ambiance that mirrored the enchantment blossoming between the two.
As they walked along the shore, the sound of the waves providing a soothing backdrop, Koby spoke from the heart. "Shizune, I know we come from different lands, but there's something about you that feels incredibly right. I've never felt this way before."
Shizune smiled, her eyes reflecting the moonlight. "Koby-kun, life has a way of surprising us. Sometimes, the most unexpected connections are the ones that bring the most joy. I've enjoyed our time together too, and I'm excited to see where this journey takes us."
They found a secluded spot on the beach, where they sat side by side, gazing at the ocean. The quiet moments were filled with a comfortable silence, the shared understanding and unspoken emotions weaving a bond that seemed to transcend time.
“Shizune-san, I want to make every moment and day here a treasure with you. I don’t want to have a single regret about this vacation or you,” he said, his hand holding hers, sincerity and honesty evident in his tone.
Shizune's eyes sparkled with appreciation as she listened to Koby's heartfelt words. She squeezed his hand gently and replied, "Koby-kun, I feel the same way. Let's embrace each moment and create memories that we'll cherish forever. No regrets, just the joy of being together."
The time the two would have together would race by, as they say, time flies when one is having fun. The two were having fun, passionate, and great fun. The pair of them spend every moment in each other's company, falling for one another deeper by the moment, as the whole of the vacation would slide by. Days of exploration, joy, fun, and nights of celebration and even intimate passion between the unlikely couple.
On the final night, in the soft glow of moonlight, Koby and Shizune shared a lingering kiss, a silent promise of the connection they had forged. As they parted, the air was filled with a mix of contentment and a tinge of sadness. The realization that they would soon part ways weighed on them, but they both knew that the memories they created would endure.
The next morning arrived too quickly, and it was time for Koby and Shizune to bid farewell to the enchanting island that had witnessed the blossoming of their unexpected romance. They stood at the dock, the ocean breeze gently tousling their hair as they held hands, reluctant to let go.
"I never thought a vacation would change my life this much," Koby confessed, his eyes reflecting the depth of his emotions.
Shizune nodded, her gaze fixed on the horizon. "Life has a way of surprising us when we least expect it. I'll treasure these moments, Koby-kun."
With a final, lingering look, they boarded their respective boats, each headed back to their own worlds. The waves seemed to carry their whispered promises across the water, promising a future where their paths might cross again.
Time passed, as all things do. Koby dedicated himself to his work at Naval HQ, while Shizune diligently served in Konoha under Tsunade. Both were focused on their respective duties, but the memories of the events during the vacation lingered in the background.
Several months later, Koby received news about a new medic arriving to introduce innovative ideas and practices for Naval Doctors. Garp personally informed him to welcome this individual and ensure they were comfortable after a long boat ride from a distant land.
As Koby waited at the dock, a figure emerged from the arriving boat, and to his surprise, it was none other than Shizune. The realization brought a mixture of shock and joy to Koby's face.
"Shizune-san! What are you doing here?" Koby exclaimed, a wide smile breaking across his face.
Shizune, equally surprised and delighted, replied, "It seems our paths have crossed again, Koby-kun. I've been assigned here to collaborate with the Naval Doctors and share some of Konoha's medical practices. Tsunade-sama thought it would be a great opportunity."
Garp, who was observing the interaction, chimed in, "Koby, make sure Shizune here feels welcome. She comes highly recommended from Tsunade herself."
Koby nodded eagerly, still processing the unexpected reunion. "Of course, Vice Admiral Garp. Shizune-san, welcome to Naval HQ! It's incredible to see you again. We have a lot to catch up on."
Shizune smiled warmly. "Thank you, Koby-kun. I'm looking forward to working together and sharing our medical expertise."
Koby reached down and took Shizune's hand into his own. Despite the time apart, the connection they shared during the vacation was still palpable, and the look exchanged between them conveyed that the feelings were mutual. Koby couldn't help but feel a sense of gratitude towards Garp, who seemed to be playing innocent but undoubtedly orchestrated this unexpected reunion. The two mentors had ensured their mentees' happiness.
As they walked together, Koby's heart raced with thoughts of the future. The possibilities felt endless, and with Shizune by his side, he was ready to embark on a new chapter of his life. The unexpected twists of fate had brought them together once again, and Koby couldn't be more excited about what lay ahead.
