Work Text:
They’d been out of step every dance they’d participated in. She went to the left, he went to the right. It was one step forward, and two steps back. He said jump, she just ducked. She held up a greenlight, he thought it was red. He thought her reckless, Never stopping to think past the current step. She thought him safe, Never daring to take a risk. He told her she was defiant, when all he wanted was to follow the rules. She’d told him not every line was as straight as a ruler, Sometimes he needed to swerve. Suddenly it was too late to walk in step.. When one dances with the stars and the other lies still.
