There was no way out without more death. Paz Vizsla knew this. But he also knew that he could protect them. The moment Bo Katan fell back and unsheathed the Dark Saber he was ready to fire.
And fire he did, he kept the blaster fire going eve as he heard the others fall back and escape. The trooper’s blasters barely even fazed him, adrenaline flooding his system as all his focus went into protecting the covert.
He distantly heard Bo Katan yell, “Fall back! I’ll cover you!”
Paz traded a second away for a glance at the female night owl, and in that moment he knew he couldn’t let her die if he could help it. Maybe he was selfish, but he loved her too much to let her go like this.
He slammed his fist into the control panel, closing the passageway behind him. He heard Bo Katan slam her fists against the glass a second later, yelling his name.
“Go!” he yelled as more troopers arrived via jetpack, “Go!”
“I’m not leaving without you!” She yelled back, and the sound of blaster fire hitting the glass sounded. If an entire brigade of fire couldn’t shatter it than Bo Katan certainly wouldn’t be able too.
“Go!” He yelled once more, glancing back at her, and even with her helmet on he could tell she was desperate, “Free Mandalore!”
He didn’t see her leave, but he could feel it in his soul. She would be safe, she would be fine. Paz lifted his gun higher so he could keep shooting, ignoring the way blaster bolts burrowed into his armor and the pain as they nipped his skin.
He kept fighting, even as the connection on his gun broke and he resorted to fighting them with his fists.
It wasn’t until every last trooper lay dead on the platform that Paz allowed himself to pause and catch his breath, but it was then when three red cloaked guards holding electro staffs approached from the shadows.
Paz pulled his vibroblade and activated the small shield on his gauntlet, assuming a fighting stance. He could tell teh adrenaline was begging to wear off as his body barked in protest. But he prepared to fight, if not for him than for Bo Katan. For Mandalore. For Ragnar. The guards charged him and he managed to deflect some of the the gaurds first atatcks, but the moment the electricity hit his system from the first staff he knew it was over. But he still tried to fght off the second as the third one also stabbed him, and finally he felt the fight leave him.
But she was safe.
She had made it, he knew it deep inside.
______
Bo Katan suddenly froze, a cold feeling washing over her as she glanced back towards the hallway she had run out of.
Paz wasn’t coming.
Bo Katan kept going, running faster to keep up with the others.
