Chapter 1: Dark Imaginations

Notes:

Chapter Text

Todoroki Touya is a first year high school boy. He's at UA but on the general education track.

Touya’s sister Fuyumi is the only girl of the siblings and considered cheerful and pretty. His younger brother Natsuo is athletic, charismatic, and friendly. His youngest brother Shouto is practically perfect.

... and then there's Touya...

Touya is just the plain and completely unremarkable first born son. Next to his hero father, gorgeous mother, and amazing siblings, Touya knows he’s the odd one out.

He always feels that he isn't and will never be good enough. Sometimes Touya wonders if there's even any point to his existence. How could such an amazing family still have someone so... Disappointing.

Touya pours his energy into his secret hobbies of writing fiction and sketching manga as an escape from his own dull reality. It's a temporary sanctuary from his feelings of inadequacy. It's the only relief he has from feeling like a complete and utter failure in the face of his all too perfect family.

Touya has found that he actually enjoys creating dark and gritty thrillers filled with mystery and suspense. He especially loves criminal dramas.

Touya did a lot of research on villains, criminals, cold cases, and urban legends. He's looked up and learned as much as he could on the procedures, regulations, jargon, and slang for heroic agencies, law enforcement, and government entities.

Touya uses all that he learned to carefully craft his stories with enough details to give anyone in law enforcement or the government a feeling of realism. The realism only makes the impact of the suspense and horror that much greater.

The villain Dabi is a work of fiction. He is the culmination of Touya's research. He is the current masterpiece of Touya's craft.

Dabi is a figment of imagination made larger than life in the secret writings and sketches of Touya's hobby.

Touya has an entire notebook written for and about Dabi. Concept art, doodles, notes, and little written blurbs come together into a thorough and comprehensively constructed character. His is a major antagonist in most of Touya's works.

Touya had worked hard to make Dabi's very existence a traumatizing experience for anyone that runs into him. As a dark thriller writer, Touya's actually very proud of Dabi.

Dabi is a terrifying super-villain, a criminal mastermind, and practically a nightmare that law enforcement would never wish on even their worst enemies. He is cruel, calculating, and ruthless. Yet at the same time displays a blood-chilling sort of unhinged insanity that would make even the most experienced heroes and officers skin crawl.

The worst thing about him is that Dabi knows exactly how the heroics, law, and government systems work. He knows all the ins and outs and shortcuts and loopholes. Dabi uses this knowledge with brutal efficiency. Touya made Dabi slippery and cunning on purpose. The idea was a nightmare no one on the right-side of the law would want to have to tango with.

Dabi is an existence best left to fiction and imagination. No one in their right mind would ever want Dabi to be real.

One day, while feeling especially upset, Touya writes in his Dabi book. Touya was feeling hurt and inadequate again and just really wanted for once to be the center of someone's attention. Even if it's bad attention. Even if it's not even real. He just wants to escape reality for a little.

So Touya writes a short story of Dabi being pulled into another world (Touya's world) by an errant quirk. He writes about Dabi's initial confusion but how he quickly almost seamlessly slips into the criminal underground of the new world and takes it by storm.

The story twists on itself and takes on a life of its own. Touya feels like he's lost control on how it's developing. But it's okay because it's been a while since he's dived into just stream of consciousness writing. It's both freeing and terrifying seeing the words just pouring out of him onto the paper of his notebook.

In his loneliness, the boy writes about Dabi interacting with Touya. Touya writes about how Dabi recognizes Touya as his weaker more innocent counter-part. He writes about how Dabi forms an insane obsession with Touya. He writes about Dabi stalking Touya.

He writes out dark scenes of emotional manipulation, gas-lighting, and all the means and methods Dabi uses to isolate and control his new obsession. He writes about how Dabi wants to own and possess Touya.

Touya just wants to feel wanted. He knows something like this in real life would be horrible... But this is just a work of fiction.... No one really gets hurt...

He writes Touya as desperate for attention and validation. He writes almost a little too much of his own deepest darkest most personal feelings into his Touya character for the story. Then, he writes about how Touya is stupidly and naively letting himself get trapped and tangled in Dabi's web.

Touya likes to think he wouldn't fall for something like this in real life... but deep down inside he hates to admit that he's not actually sure... To have someone tell him all the things he's ever wanted to hear... even if it's a lie... No. A lie is still a lie. It's not worth it if it isn't real...

The Touya character in the piece of fiction is turned into Dabi's personal treasure. He's kept like a beloved pet but also... kept as a lover...

To be wanted... To be 'loved'.... To have so much attention... Even if it's the bad kind of attention... This is just fiction. A fantasy. It would never happen. It can never be real.

The written Dabi delights in corrupting the boy. He writes about how Dabi kisses Touya. How Dabi touches Touya in the most intimate and violating ways.

Flustered but feeling a lot less despondent Touya lets the short story veer into his first smut scene that leads to other increasingly explicit and disturbing sex scenes.

Touya as a young virgin is super embarrassed by writing such filthy and violent fantasies...

(Wasn't having sex with yourself called masturbation? That's okay isn't it? He isn't hurting anyone with a work of fiction. Touya doesn't want to think that he's a prude but... he's honestly getting embarrassed just thinking about it...)

Touya resolves to destroy all of the evidence. He'll take the book to an isolated trail on Sekoto Peak and burn it this weekend.

How embarrassing... No one must ever find out...

That same weekend, while out and about, a villain fight breaks out and Touya's bag gets hit by a cocktail of different quirks in the midst of the chaos and confusion.

Touya is relieved to have dodged that particular bullet. Who knows what those quirks would have done to him. He's also not too broken up about the messenger bag since it only had some spare change, a water bottle, and his fiction notebook in it.

That relief turns to horror when the bag explodes in a bright flash of light and the smoke clears revealing a terrifyingly familiar scarred figure. It's Dabi.

He's real. He's real now and he's looking right at Touya. Touya’s wide blue eyes meet Dabi's cold frigid yet calculating stare. Yelling and the sounds of fighting break the two out of their stare down. Touya scrambles away towards the heroes and police. Dabi rushes to the side and slips away into an alley.

'At least I don't have to burn my notebook anymore...' Touya thinks hysterically to himself.

When he finally gets home, Touya exhaustedly brushes the whole thing off as a stress induced hallucination. The idea of a fictional character literally coming to life was ludicrous.

Several months later, during a casual meet up at the Todoroki home, Touya overhears his father, some sidekicks, and a few of his father's police officer friends complaining about a new super-villain and criminal mastermind that's shaking things up in the underworld. Seeing the wanted poster, Touya is horrified at Dabi's face.

Even worse are the news clips showing glimpses of the elusive but extremely dangerous super-villain. If reports are to believed, then Dabi has caused massive amounts of destruction. He's also left dozens upon dozens of bodies in his wake. He's a mass murderer. The authorities are at their wits end trying to deal with him. The public is living in fear.

Shakily slipping back to his room, Touya slides to the ground and takes gasping breaths in his growing panic.

He did this.

Dabi was his creation and now it's all Touya's fault all those people got hurt. It's Touya's fault all those people lost their homes, lost their loved ones, and lost other things important to them. It’s Touya's fault all those people died. He feels so very sick.

Pressing his palms against his mouth, Touya muffled his guilty sobs as hot tears leak from his eyes. What now? How can he fix this? What does he do? What can he do?

Touya is startled when he's pulled into a hug. The person holding him isn't soft like Mom or Fuyumi. They don't feel large and muscular the way Dad and Natsuo do. They're... definitely not Shouto.

There's a dizzying scent of smoke, burning herbs, and incense. It's familiar but Touya doesn't remember smelling anything quite like it before... (But he's imagined it before hasn't he? He's written about it hasn't he? One of his characters...)

A large hand brushed against his knee and is now sliding up Touya's thigh. He can feel the fingers of another hand slipping under the hem of his shirt and lightly trailing across the skin of his hip, teasingly tracing along the waistband of his cargo shorts.

Touya's breath catches. He's scared. Some unknown man is in his room and touching him far too intimately.

Touya stills and his pulse quivers erratically at the feeling of rough scarred skin interspersed with cold hard metal pressing against him. Dread builds and his blood turns to ice as Touya realizes exactly who is in his room.

"Touya..." a low, gravelly voice murmurs.

Touya hesitantly lifts his head. His wide tear filled eyes meet Dabi's own eerie blue gaze.

The villain leers, lips pulling into a sharp grin. His large hands slide to Touya's back and then drift down cupping the boy’s rear in a firm grope. He pulls the trembling boy flush against him. Touya can feel the villain's clothed erection grinding against his own crotch. The button on his shorts is popped open and he can hear the zipper being undone.

Completely terrified, Touya gasps and screams. Writhing and struggling, his terror grows as a cloth is hastily shoved into his face muffling his screaming.

'Chloroform,' he thinks to himself as his vision blurs.

The last thing he hears is incomprehensible shouting and the feeling of heat washing over him as everything fades to darkness.

Waking up in a white washed room, Touya is confused when he realizes that he's in the hospital...

A large warm hand is gently holding his own hand. It's slightly trembling.

Looking up, Touya sees his father, the hero Endeavor. The man is singed and scuffed up. He's also patched with a considerable amount of bandages.

"Touya," the man's gruff voice hoarsely whispers, "God's, Touya..."

Touya is further stunned when the hulking behemoth that is his father hugs him. The man is shaking and Touya is shocked when he feels a wet patch growing on his shoulder. His father is crying.

"Endeavor, I know he's just woken up but we need to get a statement from your son," a nearby officer states solemnly and uncomfortably,, "We need to find out what the villain was doing in his room..."

"Are you fucking kidding me?!" Touya's father snarls, "Why he was in my son's room?! We all saw just how he was holding my son! Where his hands were! The fucking hard on! Touya's shorts were opened! That bastard was about to rape my son! What the hell more do you need to determine?!"

"Endeavor, sir, please calm down," another officer tried to intervene, "Dabi has escaped capture. We need more details and your son's statement may have key information that could help us deal with the villain."

Endeavor is flushed with anger, the veins on his neck and temple protruding and visibly throbbing.

The man practically growls, "No. Touya is a minor. He's only a first year high schooler and in general studies not heroics. My statement, the statements from my sidekicks, and the statements from the officers that were present should be more than sufficient."

"Sir," yet another officer tried.

"My child has just been sexually assaulted by a mass murdering super villain. We are not making him relive that trauma." Enji firmly states stepping protectively between Touya's hospital bed and the other people in the room.

When a nearby sidekick opens his mouth, Endeavor loses what little remaining patience he has.

"I SAID NO! NOW LEAVE! GET OUT!" Endeavor roars, his quirk flaring up in his rage. The gaggle of police officers, sidekicks, and even other heroes scramble to exit the room.

With the shock and confusion fading away, the weight of all that's happened finally crashes into Touya and he can't help the sob the escapes his lips.

I did this. It's all my fault. I don't know how to fix this...

Endeavor's anger immediately fizzles out in the face of his crying son. He rushes over, stops short, and awkwardly hovers next to Touya's hospital bed.

"I'm sorry!" Touya hiccups throwing himself at his father and getting pulled into a hug.

"Oh, Touya, no," Enji murmurs, "It's not your fault. You're the victim and no one can blame you for what happened..."

His Father is wrong. Dabi exists. He's real. He's hurting and killing people. It's all Touya's fault. Touya is the reason Dabi exists...

Touya breaks down sobbing in his father's arms.

In the distance, vivid blue eyes stare calculatingly at the hospital building. Security is tight but that means very little to someone of Dabi's skill.

That's fine. The boy wasn't going anywhere beyond Dabi’s reach. Dabi can be patient.

Touya... Touya... Touya... Touya...

Soon. Just be patient. Soon.

No one, especially not Endeavor, can get in his way. Touya belongs to Dabi...
