Jack and his coach were out running in Monaco in the middle of a week ahead of the race weekend in Austria when they bumped into Daniel and Michael. The older Aussie smiled when he saw Jack.
“Hey, mate.”
He shared a fist bump with Jack and then did the same to Jack’s coach whilst Michael followed suit.
“How’s it going?” Asked Daniel.
Jack smiled.
“Just gearing up for Austria.”
“I sincerely hope you have your flight booked for later on today.” Teased Daniel.
Jack rolled his eyes.
“Yes, I’m flying out tonight.”
“Do you have time for a coffee?” Asked Daniel.
Jack shared a look with his coach who just shrugged, an indication that it was up to him. Michael just rolled his eyes at the thought of his friend skipping out on training to have a coffee. Daniel pouted at him.
“Just a quick coffee.” Insisted Daniel.
Michael just huffed.
“Fine.”
The four of them headed to a cafe which Daniel suggested. When they arrived, Michael and Ryan went to order the coffee whilst Daniel and Jack sat down at a table.
“So, are you looking forward to the next race?” Asked Daniel.
“I’ll be glad if I get some good points over the course of the weekend.”
“It will be fine and I’m sure you’ll be great.”
“You have more confidence in me than other people do.”
“Hey, racing can be unpredictable, just look at me in the McLaren.”
Jack felt bad for complaining.
“How are things?”
Daniel shrugged.
“Let’s just say I’ll be glad when it’s summer break and I don’t say that often.”
“Next year will be different.”
Daniel sighed.
“I hope so, I’m just glad I have Michael by my side.”
“It’s nice to have friends by your side, huh?”
Daniel blushed.
“He’s not just a friend.”
Jack was confused, he knew that Daniel and Michael were friends. Michael was also Daniel’s coach so he didn’t know if the Aussie was referring to that as well.
“Well, yeah, he’s your coach as well.” Said Jack.
Daniel rubbed the back of his neck nervously.
“He’s also my boyfriend.” Said Daniel, quietly.
Jack nearly blushed for getting it so wrong. He was surprised as well.
“Oh, oh.”
Daniel turned around to look at Michael in the queue at the till and he smiled when he received a smile in response. Jack caught the move and he tried to hold back a smile as Daniel turned around to look at him.
“I don’t know how I didn’t see it.” Said Jack.
“I mean, we’re not hiding it but we’re not shouting about it if you get what I mean.”
Jack nodded.
“So, how long have you been together for?”
“A couple of years.”
Daniel couldn’t help but chuckle as Jack’s eyes widened. The young Aussie was about to say something else when Michael and Ryan finally came over to the table with some coffee. Michael looked between Daniel and Jack as he noticed that they were sharing a look.
“Everything okay?”
Jack smiled and Daniel smiled back at him. He then turned to look at Michael.
“Everything's great.”
Michael raised an eyebrow as he passed Daniel his coffee but nothing else was said on the matter.
When they eventually left the cafe after a long catch up, Michael and Ryan were the first to leave the cafe. Jack caught Daniel’s arm before he could walk out of the cafe.
“I just want you to know that I’m happy for you and Michael. I won’t say anything to anyone unless you want me to.” Said Jack, softly.
Daniel relaxed and nodded.
“Thanks, Jack, I really appreciate it.”
Jack could only nod as they made their way out of the cafe together.
Before they went their separate ways, Daniel promised Jack that they would catch up again after Austria. Jack’s response was a smile.
“I look forward to it.”
As Michael and Daniel headed back to Daniel’s apartment, Michael gently nudged the Aussie’s shoulder.
“You and Jack seemed to be deep in conversation earlier, anything interesting?”
Daniel beamed.
“We were talking about you.”
Michael frowned.
“Me?”
“Yeah.”
Daniel didn’t say anything else, he just walked a little bit faster to get away from Michael because he knew that his boyfriend would start asking a whole load of questions.
“Wait, Daniel, what do you mean you were talking about me?”
Daniel just laughed as he ran from Michael.
