Chapter Text

Today was the day. You’d been waiting all summer for this and it was finally here. You woke up bright and early for your first day of hero college at UA, the top college for heroes in training. Most students became pro heroes shortly after graduating. Some even began their careers here if you were in the top percentage in your class. You were blessed to be able to come here, even receiving a full scholarship upon recommendation.

Starting the day with a long shower, you ran your fingers through your hair as you shampooed and conditioned with your mango/cherry scented soaps. Damn, it’s so pricey, you thought, but you were able to get it on sale and you liked taking care of your hair. After all, your hair was your prized feature.

You were excited but eager to start your new life in the dorms on campus. You were assigned to B dorms, a coed dorm with mostly first year students. You slipped back into your room to get dressed in a green flowy late summer dress, with short sleeves and a pair of short white socks and loafers. Hair and makeup applied, you looked in the mirror. You liked attention from boys, and wanted to make your presence known walking around campus. Compared to high school, these pre-hero boys were no joke. Built, strong, cocky egos and quirks to match. You saw them in the quad laughing and horsing around when you were moving in.

You had some confidence in yourself as well, you had a nice quirk that you could manage with skill. Of course that’s why you were here, to grow and learn and become a hero. It was a life that was always expected from you since you shone brightly in high school. You had to be perfect. You’d earned a full scholarship here anyway. You’d never let it get to your head and you felt quite humble about it all. You had plenty to learn and you knew.

You grabbed your keys and bag and left for your first classes of the day. Strolling along, you couldn’t help but notice how beautiful it was outside. It felt perfect. This was going to be a great year, you felt like nothing could bring you down. Campus was stunning and you couldn’t stop looking around, people watching.

You had your noise canceling headphones in, enjoying music when you stopped in your tracks. You heard loud booming noises over your shoulder.

Explosives? Here? You knew the campus was safe from villains, so why could you hear explosions as if the school was under attack? You and the other students stood on edge listening. Some even stood in a fighters position, ready to defend. You popped out your headphones and darted your eyes to the direction of the sound. There were five loud booms. One after another. Your anxiety was building, thinking of a way to run, escape, or fight.

“YOU REALLY THOUGHT YOU WERE ON MY LEVEL AND COULD COME HERE, HUH?!”

Silence.

“FUCK YOU. STAY AWAY FROM ME!”

One more bang. You involuntarily flinched. Everyone around you murmured but eventually moved on and kept walking to class but you were frozen. Curiosity had gotten the best of you and you wanted to see who was the source of that loud racket on this nice day. From the direction of the explosions, you saw someone walking through campus. Ashy, blonde hair bobbing through, angrily. The scowl on his face was enough proof that he was involved in the affair. You dumbly stood there and made eye contact with him while he passed you. He glared at you with hatred and spite.

“The fuck you looking at, bitch?” He mumbled.

You opened your mouth, aghast. The tone alone disgusted you. Spoken with hatred. You'd never seen anyone your age so poorly behaved before. Everyone was ignoring him, only you continued to give attention to this charade. You’d never been spoken to this way, you were well liked enough. You felt stupid, dumb, hot, and angry. He had now ruined your day and you wanted to melt into the ground. He passed you by without a second thought. How dare he make you feel this way and not acknowledge it?

You saw another young man walking along now, head down, pitiful, full of shame. He was sporting a similar face to how yours was at the moment. You got caught in some crossfire that clearly happened between these two guys.

Pushing down your feelings, you ran up to the boy Blondy had clearly harassed.

“Hi, are you okay? Those loud explosions scared me!” You said, trying to find some common ground.

What made you want to talk to this kid all of the sudden? Maybe you just wanted to check up on him since you hated the way that blonde boy made you feel. He looked pathetic and you needed to help him in some way. It was the hero in you.

“Uhh… yeah I’m okay. Just got in his way, I guess.” The boy replied. Silence.

You walked alongside him for a moment before forcing some words out to cut the awkward tension.

“I’m new here, and am heading toward the Hero Building for orientation. Are you new here as well?” You looked up at him and took in some of his features.

Moppy, green, wild, wavy hair covered his face and eyes. You could only see so much behind it other than a slew of freckles. Skinny and a bit nerdy looking. You assumed immediately he was in the studies program, no way he’d be in the hero program with you.

“Yeah, I’m -uh- heading there too.” After a while he seemed to gulp down some of his inner turmoil and perked up. “Want to walk there with me? I guess we’re classmates!”

He lifted his head and you finally got a look at his face as you both made eye contact. That sad scared boy look was gone, and he seemed happy. Weirdly cute, actually. Big, really big, green eyes. Strikingly so. They matched his hair. You wanted to push his hair out of his eyes so you could examine him better. Lots of freckles across his face. You didn’t view him as pathetic as you had found him earlier.

“Yes, that’d be really nice thank you!” You replied. “I’m y/n by the way. First year hero program.”

“Me too!” His tone had completely changed from earlier to a more upbeat and spunky attitude. It was helping you forget the situation that affected your morning.

“I’m Izuku Midoriya. I’ve been so nervous about today, but I’m glad I met you.” He smiled dorkily, but you liked it and reciprocated a beam.

“Wow you have really nice hair! Is it part of your quirk?”

You laughed and smiled, “Actually, yes! I have a hair quirk, I’m sure if we’re in the same class you’ll see it in action.”

You smiled happily at making a new friend so quickly. You felt no shame telling about your quirk since it was apparent. Your hair was thick, luscious, long and pretty. You could change the color and style with a thought. You could grow it fast, shrink it, and manipulate it in any way. It was a fun quirk, you enjoyed it and others did too. Flashy. You had it styled in a brunette and caramel highlighted blowout today, trying to look clean, nice, and approachable. Good hair for the first day of school. Full, bouncy and pretty.

You chucked, “I’m impressed, how could you tell?”

“Finding people's quirks quickly is kinda one of my specialties.” He laughed openly. “I study a lot and am observant about these kinds of things.”

You couldn’t help but wonder what this odd boy’s quirk was as you both walked side by side to orientation.

This is my first story I've written and it's a bit of a slow burn. Our girl is in for a bumpy ride!
