Work Text:
Jimin walked through the house, a bit dizzy, but not too much. He grabbed a chip from a bowl as he spotted the host—his co-worker—who he walked up to.
"Hey Yoongi," Jimin spoke. "I drank a little bit to the point where I don't feel comfortable driving. Is there anyone you know of who could take me home? It's getting late. I didn't know a dinner party could go until 1am."
"At Min Yoongi's house, we have fun," The host shrugs. "I think Jungkook's still here. He doesn't drink. He could probably take you home."
"Ugh, I don't know Jungkook very well," Jimin complains. "We sit on opposite sides of the office, so hopefully it's not awkward for him. But thanks for helping me. I appreciate it."
"Let's go find him," Yoongi puts his hand on Jimin's shoulder to stop him from falling. And he stumbled a few times.
Maybe he was a bit more drunk than he thought.
They targeted Jungkook before long, approaching him. He held a bottle of Coca-Cola in his hand. "Hey."
"Jimin needs a ride home. Would you be willing to help him out?" Yoongi asks for him. Jimin gives a small smile.
"Oh, sure," Jungkook nodded. "Are you ready to go now?"
"I'm flexible," Jimin waves a hand. "If you need to stay later, we can."
"No, I was just about to leave," Jungkook's smile was polite. "We can go now."
He drinks the rest of his soda, and Yoongi takes the bottle.
"Good, thank you," Jimin nodded. "And for the record I'm not that drunk. I just can't focus enough to drive. I won't throw up in your car, I promise."
"That's good to hear," Jungkook started walking towards the front door, Jimin following. "I've had to deal with that before, not fun."
"Bye Yoongi!" Jimin remembered, spinning around too fast. "Woah, oh shit-"
Jungkook steadies him.
"Bye Yoongi, see you at work tomorrow. Maybe next time you can plan this on a weekend," He suggests with a laugh. "I don't know if doing this on a Thursday was the best idea. Half of us will be out tomorrow."
"Yeah yeah," Yoongi waves a hand. "I'll take that into consideration for next time. Now get home safely, okay?"
"We will," Jimin's smile is goofy. "I'm not the one driving."
"Come on, Jimin," Jungkook leads him by the arm—it's quite obvious he's done this before. "You can put your address in my phone in the car. You remember it, right?"
"Yeah, of course," Jimin says once again as they walk through the front door. "I'm not that drunk, just dizzy."
"Okay, I was just making sure," Jungkook opens the passenger side for Jimin. "Don't trip."
"See now that's something I do," Jimin waved a finger as he sat down. "It only takes one drink for me to start tripping everywhere. I'm clumsy enough as it is."
"Well then good thing you're sitting now," Jungkook, who's since gotten into the driver's seat, looks over at him, starting the car as Jimin looks up his address. "I'll make sure you get home safely."
"This is so weird. We've been working together for what, two years?" Jimin asked. "And we've never had an actual conversation. You're really nice. How did I not know that?"
"I don't know," Jungkook drives, smiling to himself, because he thought the compliment was kinda cute.
"And the first time I talk to you I'm drunk!" Jimin sighs. "Which kinda sucks, but what can I do about it now? With the amount I drink at this point in my life I really only become dizzy and confident. That's how my friends describe me anyways; I fall a lot and I have no filter."
"Well, if it's any consolation," Jungkook's tempted to glance at his co-worker, but he keeps his eyes on the road. "Besides the bit of stumbling, you seem pretty good. I've dealt with much worse than you."
"Good," Jimin huffs out a laugh. "I used to get blackout drunk in college. I thought it was fun back then, but one day I just woke up and realized how stupid I was being. I soon learned I had a phobia of throwing up, so my quality of life went up a ton after I stopped drinking enough to constantly vomit."
"Well, that's an encouraging story," Jungkook cocks his head to the side, brows furrowed with a smile. "Most people who drink that much don't realize that."
"Yeah, don't get me wrong, I love alcohol, like love it," Jimin put a hand up. "But I learned how to control myself. It was hard, but slowly I learned. Why don't you drink? That's kinda weird—oops that was rude, wasn't it? I'm sorry, you're too nice for that. I just meant I don't know many people who don't drink."
"No, it's okay, don't feel bad," Jungkook assured, eyes fixed on the road. "It's pretty simple, actually. My dad was an alcoholic. He wasn't abusive or anything like that, but he was a real asshole. My parents got divorced when I was young, but my dad didn't do anything afterwards. He got laid off a couple months prior to the divorce, and just never got another job, so my parents split the house. My mom and my siblings and I lived upstairs—where the kitchen and the bedrooms and all that stuff was—and my dad lived downstairs with a mini fridge and a microwave. He was really rude to my mom, which I hated more than anything, so we all ignored him. He was a dick because he was an alcoholic. Alcoholism runs in my family. All I knew was I didn't want to end up like him."
"Oh," Jimin frowned a deep frown. "That's so sad, I'm sorry."
"Hey, don't make that face," Jungkook half-chuckled, looking at Jimin as he approached a stop sign. "You shouldn't be sorry, it's really okay. He passed away about four years ago, of liver failure. They refused to put him on the transplant list due to his alcoholism—they knew he'd just ruin any new one he was given. I offered. I don't know why I did, but I offered him my liver. Our blood types weren't a match though, so I watched him slowly die. It was sad, he was an asshole, but I loved him...he was my dad after all. Sometimes I think I miss him, but we never had a good relationship, so I'm not always sure."
"Well that made me feel even worse," The frown didn't waver. "I'm sorry you had to go through that."
"No, Jimin, don't be," Jungkook shakes his head. "There's so many people in the world that have had it worse than me, and I really like my life now. You're drunk. Put away the pity, and save it for someone who really needs it."
"Alright fine, but only cuz your voice is so pretty," Jimin yawns. "It's comforting, makes me trust everything really is okay with you."
"Um, good," Jungkook found himself feeling slightly flustered. "I'm glad you like my voice."
"It's great," Jimin emphasized. "You're great. I really regret not getting to know you sooner."
"I do too," Jungkook agreed. "I don't know much about you, but you seem really nice."
"Well, my favorite color is blue, my favorite animal right now is a zebra," Jimin lists. "I'm a Libra—oh that rhymes!"
They pull in front of Jimin's house as Jungkook puts the vehicle into park. Jungkook chuckles yet again. "Well, that's a good start."
"How about you?" Jimin inquires.
"Yellow, rabbits, and I'm a Virgo," Jungkook answers, now starting at the older.
"Cool-" Jimin finally turns his head to look at Jungkook face to face. "Woah. I've always thought you were kinda attractive, but up close, you're really hot."
"Oh, yeah?" Jungkook's voice was somehow both shy and confident at the both time.
"Yeah," Jimin's heart skips a tiny bit, because Jungkook might actually be flirting back. He didn't intend to call Jungkook hot, but he did, and the taller reacted neutrally at the very least. "With the tone you used, it almost seems like you've heard that before."
"A few times," Jungkook takes a deep breath. "But you're the prettiest one to ever say that to me." In the car ride to Jimin's house, Jungkook has grown a bit of a liking to the smaller.
Jimin's heart skips again. Now he knows he's flirting.
"Yeah?" He unbuckles his seatbelt. "Does that mean I've won?"
Jungkook does the same. "Won what?"
He shrugs. "I dunno. I'm drunk."
Jungkook laughs, shifting in his seat so he's facing Jimin. "Yeah, you are. But because of that, I got to talk to you."
Jimin leans forward playfully, over the center console. "And I got to talk to you."
Jungkook leans forward too. He's never usually like this, but Jimin made him feel a bit more confident. "That you did."
And suddenly, while staring at each other so closely, the mood got a bit less playful. A bit of a silence feel between the two of them, until Jimin whispers, "Are you gonna pull away?"
"N-no," Jungkook suddenly became nervous once he was asked that. "I don't think I am."
So then Jimin leans forward to kiss him, and just like that, they're all over each other. Their hands move all around, grabbing onto one another. The kiss deepens as they hover over the console, at this point having to hold themselves up. This goes on for a while, much longer than either would want to admit, before Jungkook remembers something.
"Jimin, wait," Jungkook pulls away. "I can't do this. You're drunk."
"Yeah, and?" Jimin dives back in. "I'm not-"
"That drunk," Jungkook stops him. "I know. But you still are, and I don't feel comfortable kissing you under the influence."
Jimin pouts. "Damn it, you're a great person. It makes me wanna kiss you even more."
Jungkook's laugh is warm. "It's getting late Jimin. We got here a little while ago, you should go back inside."
"Fine," Jimin sighs. "Even though I don't want to."
"How about I pick you up tomorrow for work?" Jungkook proposes. "I'm assuming you left your car at Yoongi's?"
"Oh, yeah, I did," Jimin's still frowning a bit, but he agrees. "I'd like that, if you're offering."
"Are you gonna forget?" Jungkook asks.
"No," Jimin answers. "My blackout days are over. And thank goodness for that—I never wanna forget that kiss."
"Here," Jungkook grabs Jimin's hand with his left hand softly, ignoring what Jimin said. He was too flustered to address it. He grabs a sharpie from the cupholder, writing on Jimin's hand; 'Jungkook is picking you up for work tomorrow.' "I forget things even when I'm 100% sober—which is all the time, of course. This will help."
Jimin giggles. "Why do you have a sharpie in your car?"
"I'm not sure," Jungkook huffs out a laugh. "But I do."
"That's weird," Jimin's smile is so wide. "You're weird. But you're cute too. It's a cute weird."
"Okay, I think you need to go now," Jungkook's still holding Jimin's hand. "It's almost 2am. If you go inside now, you'll still get a decent amount of sleep."
"...Okay, if you promise you'll kiss me tomorrow," Jimin stared at him with soft eyes. "If not, I don't think I'll be able to sleep, so I won't go."
Jungkook tries to smirk but fails due to how happy he's feeling. "You wanna kiss me that much?"
"I wanna kiss you right now," Jimin shrugs. "But I respect that you don't want me to. I really wouldn't like to wait until after tomorrow, though. Unless you don't want to kiss me. I hope that's not the case. It was a really good kiss."
"Well, if that's what you want," Jungkook's voice is soft. "I promise I'll kiss you tomorrow. Now go inside, okay? Get some sleep. I'll be back in the morning."
"You'll have to let go of my hand first," Unlike Jungkook, Jimin's actually able to smirk.
Jungkook does as told, blushing a deep shade of red. "Stop stalling. Go inside. You'll see me soon enough, you'll kiss me soon enough. Sleeping will make it come faster."
"You have a good point," Jimin finally opens the car door. "Bye, Jungkook."
"Bye, Jimin," He stares at him with a warm gaze.
Jimin lunges forward one more time, and their lips meet for just a second. "That was a peck, not a kiss," He defends. "It didn't count."
Then he finally got out of the car, closing the door behind him. Jungkook watched him stumble up to the door, tripping on the second step. But he regained his balance without falling, and unlocked the door, walking into his house.
Once the door closes behind him, Jungkook rests his forehead on the steering wheel, the biggest smile on his face.
"Oh my God," He says to himself. "Oh my God he's so cute. Am I okay? I think I'm in love with him. How have I never noticed him before tonight?"
He shakes his head, straightening himself out, putting his seatbelt on, starting the car. His face was glowing and radiant, a pretty pink hue. It was the face of an extremely smitten man.
Even Jungkook's breathing sounds happy. "Oh my God, I hope he feels the same. I'm going insane, but I really think one day I could marry that man."
*
At 7am, Jimin hears his doorbell ring. He drags himself to the door, with small traces of a headache landing on his glabella. It wasn't the worst, but it still hurt. It'll get worse once the sun rises completely.
But as he opens the front door, his mood brightens a bit—a lot actually—enough to smile. "Oh, Jungkook, hey. You're here kinda early. Missed me that much?"
"I brought some hangover soup," Jungkook held it up. "I thought you'd like to take time in the morning to feel better."
"It's okay, I missed you too," Jimin smirks.
"I'm serious," Jungkook's voice was soft, so whipped. "The fact of whether or not I missed you is very much unimportant."
"Well, you're much smarter than me," Jimin laughed. "I was ready to go to work hungover. Come in, we can both eat the soup."
"Oh, I only brought enough for you," Jungkook followed behind him to the kitchen, where the dining room also was.
"Nonsense," Jimin shook his head. "You cared for me last night, you're so kind this morning. The least I can do is let you have some of the soup that you brought."
"Okay," If that's what you want I'll have some," Jungkook turns on the light above the stove, enough light so they can see without causing Jimin more pain.
"I'll make it up to you someday. I don't want to take advantage of your kindness," Jimin rubs his temple. It was there he saw the 'Jungkook's picking you up tomorrow' on his hand for the second time. The writing made him smile.
"Don't worry about it," Jungkook waves a hand. "How are you feeling?"
"Not terrible," Jimin shrugs. "My head hurts, but not too bad." He opens a drawer, getting two spoons as Jungkook sits down. "Did you get enough sleep? I'm really sorry I kept you up so long. I warned you I had no filter under the influence."
"Again, don't worry about it," Jungkook smiles as Jimin sits down. "I never asked you to go. I...I didn't want you to go."
Jimin's heart filled with a deep warmth. "That's good. You know...I would've contemplated and worried about how terrible my drunk self was. But you woke me up, so I didn't have the time."
"No, I really liked drunk you," Jungkook laughs a breathy laugh. "And I like sober you so far too."
"Oh," Jimin looks down as Jungkook opens the soup container, which is still nice and hot. "Good. Thank you."
"Of course," Jungkook smiles. "You're a lot sweeter sober—and that's not to say you aren't while drunk...but you've been really sweet this morning."
"You're kind too. It makes me want to return it all," Their conversation was soft and comfortable—effortless in every way. "We barely knew each other, but you treated me like you've known me forever. You treated me with so much care."
"That was partially because you're just so great," Jungkook deflects. "You made me feel so comfortable. I immediately felt like I was talking to a friend."
Jimin blushed. "Up until I jumped you, I'm sure."
"I wanted you to," Jungkook shrugged. "Within a single car ride, you went from a co-worker I barely knew, to someone I wanted to kiss me."
"Funny how that happened," Jimin took a bite of soup. "And that it happened to both of us."
"I'm glad it did," They danced around the subject, avoiding the difficult questions. "I'm glad I got to know a bit about you, you blue-loving, zebra-loving Libra."
"Ugh, I sound so stupid drunk," Jimin groaned.
"No, it was cute," Jungkook denied. "You are so cute."
"You're so confident," Jimin noted. "I mean just thinking about the stuff I said last night makes me so embarrassed. I said every single thing I thought."
"I'm happy you did," Jungkook beamed. "Don't feel bad about it, Jimin. I liked everything you said."
"Good," Jimin laughed. "I'm really glad."
There's a comfortable moment of silence.
"...Jimin, you're amazing," Jungkook finally confesses. "I really like you."
"I like you too," Jimin's heart skips a beat. "I didn't know you could fall for someone that fast."
"You're so great," Jungkook says once again. "I'm so glad you feel the same way. Let's go on a date sometime."
"Yeah, absolutely," Jimin agrees. "Yeah that sounds great. Thank God you didn't hate drunk me."
"I didn't at all," Jungkook shook his head. "I really liked that side of you. And this side too."
"Great," Jimin beamed. "That's so great."
*
"Okay, you're ready to go?"
"No, I forgot something," Jimin looked at him playfully as they stood by the front door. "Actually, you forgot something."
Jungkook gives him a look. "I did?"
"You promised you'd kiss me," Jimin's voice became soft. "Where's my kiss?"
"It's only 8:30 in the morning," Jungkook teases. "Maybe I wanted to wait until the end of the day."
"No," Jimin whined. "I'm impatient. You promised you'd kiss me, Jungkook. Kiss me, or I just might have to kiss you."
"Well...alright," Jungkook takes a step forward. "I did promise, after all."
And the two wrapped their arms around each other, their lips meeting. It was a much softer kiss this time, whereas the other was a bit more uncontrolled. Both their hearts were light.
When they pulled away Jimin whispers with a smile, "I could get used to this."
"Then you should," Jungkook's tone was the same. "Let's get used to this. Let's do it a lot."
"That sounds amazing," Jimin pulled away. "Let's do that. But for now, let's go to work. I'm sure there won't be many of us there." He opens the door and runs to the car. "Lock the door behind you!"
"Oh my God, I'm so in love with him," Jungkook mutters aloud. "I can't believe how much I'm in love with him."
*
"You wanna know when I realized I wanted to marry you?"
"When?" Jungkook's new husband sits on his lap, kissing him.
"The night of Yoongi's dinner party," The way Jungkook looks at him, it's like he's staring at his entire world. "When I drove you home that night."
"What?" Jimin huffs out a laugh. "Really?"
"I remember that day like it was yesterday," Jungkook tells him. "Once you left my car, I couldn't even leave without saying out loud how in love I already was with you."
Jimin's eyes are like honey. "That bad, huh?"
"I had really bad for you," Jungkook admits. "Just right away, I had it really bad."
"Well good thing I did too," Jimin giggles. "Granted, that night the second I saw my bed I was already asleep. But I fell in love with you after the sleep wore off."
"As I drove away that first night I said I could marry you," Jungkook continued. "It seemed absolutely crazy back then, but soon it turned into I was going to marry you. And now I have."
"And I've married you," Jimin starts petting his hair. "You're beautiful. This was the best, easiest, most perfect relationship I've ever been in. How many times have we fought?"
"I don't know...two?" Jungkook tries to remember. "Unless that debate about which candy bar was better doesn't count."
"It doesn't," Jimin chuckles. "We're just really good at working out our problems, huh?"
"Yep," Jungkook kissed him. "Because when I get mad at you, I just remember how much I love you until the anger melts enough where I can talk to you."
"You're so cheesy," Jimin laughed. "Gross."
"Well you married this cheesy gross husband," Jungkook joked. "That's your fault."
"It's okay, I feel the same," Jimin confessed. "I love you."
"I love you too," Jungkook's smile was so wide. "We're magical."
"So magical!"
