Work Text:
“You’re kidding, right?” Beachcomber stared up at the worn building with a frown.
“It needs work,” Cosmos said with a shrug. “But so does every unoccupied building on Oceanview. It’s already got all the kitchen wiring and plumbing, though.”
“We can paint it,” Rook added, running up to the door and spreading his arms across the entryway. “Bright yellow and some blue and stuff!”
Glyph joined her brother at the door a moment later. “And we can put in some new floor! I’ll help!”
“Help!” Bumper added from his perch in Beachcomber’s arms.
“Cos, I erally don’t want to be a downer, but that’s going to cost a fortune to fix up.” Beachcomber’s frown didn’t fade at all, despite their nibblings’ enthusiasm for the project.
“I know that. I’ve already looked into all that. But the loan will cover it, and Scrapper says they’ll cut me a deal if we do it during the tourist season, since that’s when work is slowest.” Cosmos gestured to the other shops on the street. “Besides, I don’t dare build too far away from everyone else or the tourists will never find me.”
“I know all that. I just… I guess I'm just worried about my big brother losing everything if this doesn’t work.”
“And I appreciate that.” Cosmos stepped closer and wrapped Beachcomber in a hug. “But I’m still going to try, because I can’t keep selling cupcakes out of my apartment forever.”
“Yeah, but coffee? Coffee shops are one of the hardest restaurants to keep running.”
“We all know it’ll be running on the strength of the cakes and muffins. It’ll be fine, you’ll see.”
“It’s gonna be great!” Glyph agreed with an excited bounce.
“Uncle Cosmos is gonna have the best coffee shop in the world!” Rook added.
Cosmos couldn’t hide his grin at the children’s enthusiasm.
