Chapter 1: The Incident

Chapter Text

Logan was angry, well, more angry than normal. Anger seemed to be his default state at the moment, so it was only really special if he was extra pissed. Today was one of those days. Thomas had yet another conflicting schedule. He was meant to go on a date with Nico today, but he also was meant to visit his parents. Thomas had been really busy recently, and his parents didn’t live that close, so this visit was a long-time coming. Roman had said to go to Nico, where Patton suggested to go to the parents. Virgil had said it was all pointless because whichever side they chose, the other would hate them forever. All Logan wanted to say was the logical thing would be to change the date and bring Nico to their parents, but no one would let him get a word in edgeways.

The only other person who seemed to be remaining silent was Janus, but Logan wasn’t taking much notice of him. Janus was there to offer occasional suggestions, but Roman and Virgil refused to let him speak, since, as they put it, “He hadn’t earnt his seat at the table,” which didn’t make much sense, cause if they had it their way, Janus would never get that seat. But enough about Janus, this is about Logan. Every time he tried to speak, someone had talked over him with a “whatever specs” or a “its a romantic thing, you wouldn’t get it” or outright ignoring his existence. You think they would have taken notice of his increasingly sour attitude these last few weeks, but apparently not, aside from Janus, who was giving him cautious glances now and then, but was either too scared to say anything, or just decided he didn’t care enough.

Roman outright putting his finger up at Logan in order to shush him was the last straw. Without warning, Logan screamed. “ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?! I HAVE BEEN STANDING HERE WITH THE PERFECT SOLUTION, BUT DO YOU LISTEN TO ME? NO! STOP IGNORING ME AND LISTEN TO ME FOR ONCE IN YOUR PATHETIC LIVES!” Everyone stopped and stared, too stunned to speak. Not even Roman, who would backtalk anyone and everyone had anything to say to this. The first to speak was Janus.

“Logan…” he muttered
“WHAT!” Logan screamed back.
“Your eyes… they’re orange.”
“Well at least one of you have taken notice! I’ve been like this for weeks and none, NOT ONE of you have cared to even LOOK at me!”
“Logan, what’s wrong?” Patton asked, timidly.

“What’s wrong? WHAT’S WRONG? YOU FINALLY WANNA KNOW!” He shrieked back. “WELL, TOO BAD! YOU’VE HAD WEEKS TO NOTICE ME! YOU WANNA KNOW, YOU FIGURE IT OUT YOURSELVES!” storming off into the kitchen.

“Logan, where are you going? We need to talk about this?” Thomas called after him.
“WHY? It’s not like you’re going to listen! You never have!”
“Logan, that’s not true,” Janus started, timidly following the logical side slowly.
“Like you can tell me what’s true or not. Keep your lies to yourself.” Logan spat back, not turning to see the snake side approach.
“Please Logan, I know what’s going on. He has his hooks in you. He’s using you.”
“Don’t pretend like you know me, like you care! Just leave me alone!”
“Logan, if you wanted to be left alone, you would have sunk out already. It's him. He’s using your anger against you. He wants you to stay here, to argue, so he can use that anger to reveal himself, cause once he does, I can’t stop him.” Janus tried to explain.

“Whose this He they’re talking about?” Thomas whispered to the other sides.
“It’s probably better you don’t know.” Patton replied back.

“SHUT UP!” Logan shrieked back at Janus, face down, one hand gripping the countertop, another squeezing a nearby empty coffee mug, both his fingers turning white. “STOP LYING!”

“Please, Logan, you’re rational. Since when is anger rational. This isn’t you.” Janus continued, cautiously taking a few steps closer, so they were now only around 2 feet apart.

“I SAID SHUT UP!” and before Janus could process what was happening, Logan had turned around, and threw the coffee mug straight at him.
The next thing anyone knew, Janus squatting on the floor, both hands covering his face, crimson liquid seeping between and staining his gloves. Now it was Logan’s turn to stop and stare. It was like all anger had seeped out of him, melting into the floor like wax, and kept him standing there, unable to move. Soon, everyone was in the kitchen, crowding around Janus to see if he was alright. Thomas stood up, looked at Logan dead in the eyes, all colour gone from both of their faces.
“What have you done?”
Logan didn’t say anything. How could he? So instead, he looked down at his feet and sunk out.
