Chapter Text
Is that his PHONE ?…With a groan, Sullivan rolled himself into a sitting position and grabbed his mobile after two
attempts to pick it up. “Robert Sullivan” he managed to croak.
“I don’t want a divorce.”
“Ahhh…what?!!”
“You heard me, Robert - I don’t want a divorce. I haven’t filed and…I’m not going to.” The silence on his end is unbearable, and
so she asks “Am I too late?”
"You nearly were, being honest", he says finally.
"I made a mistake," she says. I've realized some things; I-I've been talking to Diane, and it seems that I'm...what did she call
it: 'half a narcissist': my self-absorption is another of the many defects that I have," she says a bit sadly.
"You've been through some shit; you're...cut yourself a break; you're human."
She tries some dark humour: "A really fucked up human."
"C'mon, cut it out", Robert said. Then: "Did you want something else?"
Nervously, Andy asks "Can we meet? Please? There's so much that I want to say-HAVE TO SAY ...to explain...is Discovery
Park good?"
"1700"
"I'll be there. I...I miss you so much, Robert...I've been a bitch, and a-
"I miss you too," he admits. "And STOP IT. Neither of us has clean hands in this. 1700, right?"
"Yes..'bye Robert."
"See you there."
=====VICLEY=====
"LENYA!"
Mrs. Hughes rolled her eyes, muttering in Polish. "Go on, Kochanie ", she urged her daughter.
"Lucas is mad at me, Mommy. I keep losing my temper with him, and..."
"And?"
"I...usually curse him, and insult..."
"And raise your voice? Get onto your high horse?"
"Something like that."
"You must TRY, again, Victoria. Your Lucas is very similar to my Anthony: both are proud, strong men."
"He won't listen."
"Call him".
A call comes through: "Lucas Ripley."
"It's ME, Lucas."
His cheery demeanor dissipates. "Hi. Did you want something?"
"I shit all over myself it seems-YET AGAIN," Vic said sheepishly. "I can't get outta my own way lately, it seems," she laments.
"Is this supposed to be an apology? If so you're failing miserably.
"No shit, huh? I'm not real good at it, these apologies...I guess it's time I grow up: I'M SORRY, Lucas. I sincerely apologize for the
way that I've acted. I've been insubordinate, disrespectful, and dismissive of your feelings. Can you forgive me? Please?"
The silence that follows is deafening. "Lucas?!"
"Meet me at the 'Eggy Place': 0700 tomorrow."
Brightening, she responds "I'll be there!"
//////////
-DISCOVERY PARK-
Each carries a water bottle while walking alone on the hike 'n bike path. The silence between them is companionable,
and neither wants to break it; finally, Herrera decides to: "I have been feeling so unlike myself: sad, angry, anxious, hope-
less...for...a long time. I don't know what to do about it, I know that I need help. I set up a session with Diane Lewis for next
Monday. Would you...would you want to go?"
"Huh. I didn't expect that, but sure - I'll be there."
"Also; I've treated you so poorly, and I'm beyond sorry about that. I didn't give you a chance tunder-handed without any facts, which
was so unfair to you. Why do I do that? If I had just FOUGHT with you like you wanted me to: to: screamed and argued if that's what it
took- but LISTENED and DISCUSSED...where would we be now? Not separated: I'd bet a month of YOUR salary on that."
"MY salary? OK..."
Andy laughs. "You earn almost triple what I do, Chief."
They take seats on a bench shaded by trees. "This is nice," Robert remarks.
Looking deeply into his eyes Andy replies "It is. More than nice...do you; would you want to have dinner together? It's okay
if you don't-"
Of course, the answer is YES.
