Do you?

Summary:

They look at eachother like that for a little while, and he suddenly realizes there’s something new in the air between them. Akaashi slowly lets his eyes slip down to Bokuto’s lips, lingering there before coming back up to his eyes.

He lets out a deep breath he hadn’t known he had been holding. “Do you…?”

He has no idea what he’s asking. Do you...want to go to sleep? Have something to tell me? Want something from me?

Akaashi’s eyes focus on his lips again. “Can I?”

Notes:

I am probably going to write a dozen different proposal stories for these two because I am so weak for it.

I hope you enjoy this one.

Work Text:

They both knew it had been a long time coming, but it also felt like it sort of happened all at once.

They had remained close after they graduated highschool. Maybe they’d gotten closer, even learned to talk to each other without having to use words at all. It was at the end of a long week for both of them when it finally happened. Bokuto had gotten the text, “Do you want to come over? I’ll order dinner.” and told the rest of the team he’d be staying out that night.

Bokuto was on the tail end of his first week back on the court after he’d broken his two smallest fingers on his left hand. He’d argued, “It’s not my spiking hand”, “I barely use this one at all”, even tried to get Atsumu to use the athletic tape to bind his left hand behind his back to show he could still play. Foster had still kept him off the court for as long as he could, though, and Meian made no move to argue.

Akaashi had the shock of his life on Tuesday morning when he volunteered to pick up an editing project for a work colleague who went into labor. Twenty minutes later, the raunchiest hentai manga he had ever seen landed on his desk, and he had to work from home the rest of the week to get it done.

When Bokuto arrived at Akaashi’s apartment, he just let himself in using the spare key Akaashi had given him when a work colleague went into labor and he was asked to finish one of her urgent editing projects. He could already smell the pizza from the genkan and hear the television murmuring in the living room.

Akaashi just waved him over and handed him a slice of pizza, “Oh my god, Keiji, is this the stuffed crust this is the best day of my life---” and they settled in for their usual routine of binging dumb pet videos on YouTube and lamenting their own lack of furry little dudes living in their homes.

Bokuto loved these moments more than he could ever express. During the times in his life when it felt like his own boundaries had disappeared, stretched too thin and gone too far, these simple nights with Keiji beside him helped all of his pieces settle back into place.

They had never been close enough to share a bed in highschool, even though they stayed over together often. That just wasn’t something highschool boys did. Slowly, though, as they grew into themselves as adults, people just don’t do that became less and less of a barrier to what we do. At some point, Bokuto transitioned wordlessly from a futon on the floor to the left side of the bed. One day, Akaashi turned up as Bokuto’s emergency contact with the JVA. Last year, they had taken a trip into the mountains together for Akaashi’s birthday, just the two of them.

Tonight, they lay side by side on Akaashi’s queen-sized bed, pressed together from shoulder to ankle. Bokuto is trying to do one of those bedtime meditations that Sakusa was telling him about, but he feels Akaashi’s eyes on him and can’t focus. He turns his head on the pillow to look for ocean eyes in the darkness of the room.

The white and gold of the streetlights from outside filters in around the dark curtains and gives him just enough to see. Akaashi doesn’t look tired at all, his eyes wide and bright and thoughtful. Bokuto falls into those ocean eyes far too easily, but he can’t bring himself to care. It’s so much more relaxing than...what was it, pretending his feet are shutting down for the night?

They look at eachother like that for a little while, and he suddenly realizes there’s something new in the air between them. Akaashi slowly lets his eyes slip down to Bokuto’s lips, lingering there before coming back up to his eyes.

Bokuto swallows loudly. He has wanted his best friend in a more-than-friendly way for years, but knew he couldn’t rush things, was scared to chase him away. He’s been content to be close and let their friendship run its course to wherever it would go. He planned to confess, eventually, maybe, at some point. It’s probably the only thing he’s ever been patient about in his entire life.

Suddenly though, he’s having a hard time.

He lets out a deep breath he hadn’t known he had been holding. “Do you…?”

He has no idea what he’s asking. Do you...want to go to sleep? Have something to tell me? Want something from me?

Akaashi’s eyes focus on his lips again. “Can I?”

Bokuto has no idea what he’s saying yes to, but the word is out of his mouth before Ihe can think.

Akaashi is slow, methodical, intentional about his movement. He props himself up on his side and rests one hand on Bokuto’s chest. “Stop me if you need to.” He murmurs, and then their lips are touching.

Bokuto is frozen in place. He’s trying to decide if he’s dreaming or maybe hallucinating. Akaashi presses his chest a little closer into Bokuto’s side, then leans back to look at his face. Bokuto realizes he had just laid there like a log and that is absolutely not the right course of action right now. He realizes he had barely even been paying attention to how his best friend was kissing him because he was so overwhelmed.

“I need a do-over.”

Akaashi snorts out a laugh, but leans down to kiss him again. It’s gentle and languid, and Bokuto wishes he remembered how it was the first time. He puts his hand over Akaashi’s on his chest, and kisses back as well as he can in his current state.

They kiss this way for a few minutes with Bokuto flat on his back and Akaashi leaning over him. Akaashi is the first to change things up: he takes Bokuto's lower lip between his teeth and sucks gently. Bokuto moans. Akaashi gasps. Things move quickly from there.

Akaashi fists his hand in Bokuto's sleep shirt and rolls onto his back, pulling Bokuto over on top of him completely. Akaashi flips and one of his legs flies off the edge of the bed, so there is some scuffling and whispering as they right themselves. Then Akaashi pulls Bokuto back on top of him so they lay chest-to-chest and gets right back to it.

Bokuto has never had his tongue in someone else's mouth before. It's intoxicating. He wants to know the inside of Akaashi's mouth so well that he can see it in his dreams in perfect detail. The man beneath hips up and grinds against Bokuto's thigh resting between his legs, and Bokuto chokes on his own spit at the sensation.

Akaashi is hard. So is he. He presses his face into Akaashi's shoulder and gasps loudly. Akaashi presses small kisses to his temple and whispers to him, "Is that okay? We can stop. Do we need to stop, Bokuto-san?"

"Koutarou. Please." He finishes the statement with his own roll of his hips.

Akaashi gasps and responds in kind. "Koutarou. Okay. Use my name, too, then."

Koutarou lifts up to look at ocean blue eyes like he's only seeing them again for the first time. "Keiji…"

Saying it sends a thrill down his spine and he feels emotions swirl in his gut, warm and comforting like a belly full of tea. He isn't sure where this is going, but he's willing to see.

Keiji pulls him in for another kiss, this time pushing his own tongue in Koutarou’s mouth and starting up a slow rhythm with his hips. He wraps his arms around the larger man's shoulders and holds him close.

Koutarou thinks, distantly, that he could die happy here. Wrapped up close with the man he's loved for so long, rocking together to find their pleasure in one another. Akaashi's cold hands pull him back into the moment.

He has moved his hands to Koutarous hips and is trying to push his shorts down. Koutarou lifts himself up to help, and Keiji pushes his own shorts and boxers down enough for his hard cock to spring out.

Koutarou's cock is out too, but he can't bring himself to think about that. Keiji has his full attention. He is pulling his white sweater up to bunch under his arms and seems to be scrambling to get Koutarou's t-shirt off, too.

A moment later, Keiji wraps a hand about both their cocks and pulls Koutarou into another kiss. This one is hot and deep and dirty and Koutarou thinks he can feel Keijis heartbeat through the point where their lips touch.

Keiji strokes them together and he swears he's never felt anything so divine. He thrusts his hips up into Keijis hand and wraps one arm under his back to pull him closer, and it's still not enough. He needs to be as close as he can be to those sounds Keiji is making, the heat on his skin, the flush high on his cheeks, the taste of his tongue, the smell of sweat between them.

Keiji the first one to get there. He breaks away from their kiss and throws his head back, eyes squeezed shut as he tries and fails to muffle a shout. Koutarou looks on with wonder in his wide eyes.

Keiji is quick to recover, though. His eyes are still sharp, even after his orgasm, and he buries both hands in Koutarou’s hair and kisses him roughly. Koutarou wonders later if washing cum out of his hair will be difficult. That thought is cut short quickly when Keiji starts rutting up against his cock, slick and hard between them. Koutarou comes just a few short moments later, groaning hard into Keijis mouth.

The warmth in Koutarou’s belly doesn't go away after that, though, stays there as he collapses on top of Keiji and breathes heavily against his chest. He knows there's more, knows he doesn't currently have the presence of mind to stop it, or to care either way.

"Keiji."

"Hmm?"

"I love you."

He feels like his heart stops in the few seconds of silence that follow, then:

"Then marry me, Koutarou."

His squawk of ohmygodKeijiwhat is cut off when he tumbles off the side of the bed onto the floor.

Koutarou takes a moment to stare up at the ceiling as he collects himself. Keiji's long fingers curl over the edge of the mattress and he leans over to peer at Koutarou with those sharp eyes.

"Are you okay?"

"Yeah. Gimme a second."

They lay there in silence for another minute, with Keiji still as a statue and Koutarou fidgeting on the floor.

"Why?"

"Because we're in love, we are two grown men who can make grown up decisions, and Bokuto Keiji has a nice ring to it."

"So you love me, too?"

Keiji's eyes soften at the question, realizing he hadn't actually said the words.

"Yes, Koutarou. I love you. I have since highschool."

"Wait, you mean we could have been doing this in highschool?"

"Neither of us had the guts to do this in highschool and you know it."

"You're so right, I was such a mess in highschool."

"We both were."

They erupt into laughs, and Koutarou thinks this is one of the most beautiful moments they've shared together. But he can’t let himself get distracted now! He rubs his hands over his eyes and lets out a big breath.

"It's just, don't other people usually...do other stuff first? Like dates or whatever? Is this too fast?"

Keiji narrows his eyes at him from over the edge of the bed. "What other people do? That's never stopped you before."

“Yeah, that’s what you’re for. You’re basically my self control center.”

“Well, I want to marry you, so---”

Koutarou sputters and waves his hands around above him. "But Keiji! We just went from first kiss to fucking in like, ten minutes! I need to wine and dine you, say I love you under the stars! Meet your parents! My sisters need updates too! There's something about kissing in the rain, or maybe it's just in the water, I don’t know..." His hands flop back onto the floor beside him.

"We have all the time we need for everything else. If you don't want this, Koutarou, you can tell me."

"No, Keiji, of course I do! I love you! I want to marry you!"

"Then do it, you coward."

It’s now that Koutarou notices those long thin fingers kneading at the edge of the bed. Ocean blue eyes are still narrowed at him, and Keiji seems anxious. Maybe a little scared. Half of his face is still hidden over the edge of the mattress, but Koutarou wonders if he is chewing on his lip.

Koutarou suddenly wants to hold those hands and kiss those lips, so that’s just what he does. He hauls himself up and over on top of Keiji and drops down. He holds those soft cheeks in both his hands and covers those kiss-red lips with his own, and pulls off with a dramatic SMACK. Then he does it again, and then he moves onto every other part of Keiji’s face he can reasonably reach, until the man beneath him is giggling and swatting at him with no real force.

With their bodies back and moving against one another, Koutarou is dreadfully aware of the drying mess on their stomachs. He groans and pulls away to inspect the damage.

“Maybe we should go shower.” he suggests.

“You still haven’t answered my question, though.”

“I’ll marry you if you wash my hair for me.”

“I’ll wash your hair for you every single day if I get your last name.”

“Ohmygod DEAL, right ON!”

Koutarou rolls off the bed with a whoop and runs towards the bathroom. Keiji sits up and chuckles quietly as he runs his hands through his hair, finally getting a moment to process what’s just happened. He’s halfway to convincing himself this is all a dream when Koutarou’s voice carries out from the bathroom.

“We should really talk about having our first date before we do the getting-married thing, though. Maybe we could head to Tokyo and go to that ramen place we used to eat at in highschool, that counts, right? And since we’ll already be there, there are a ton of jewelers in the city so we could go look at rings. I want to get you one with gemstones because you deserve something really beautiful like that. We just have to do the date first…”

Keiji slowly makes his way to the bathroom, a small smile on his face and excitement in his heart. They’d been building up to this for years, and at the same time it seemed to happen all at once. At any rate, it was happening just right for them.
