Work Text:

Luz stared at the crystal ball. It had been two weeks since she had last met Amity in the library, and yesterday she had happened to run into Willow while she was still in Bonesborough in the evening. Luz had asked her how best to get in touch with Amity, so far their meetings had always been random, but Amity hinted that she might be a little more open with Luz now that she realized Luz wasn't a bully out to get her after all. Willow had explained to her how to use the crystal ball.

"You say the name and preferably the address where the person lives," Willow had elaborated. "Okayy," Luz replied, "what do I do when her parents answer?" Willow glanced at Luz. "Who do you want to talk to?". Luz looked down uncertainly, she hadn't yet told Willow directly about her experiences in library. "Well, ...Amity." she said guardedly. "Why Amity?" asked Willow in surprise. "Well, you see, I was in the library the other day with her and her siblings and we had a crazy adventure because of the Wailing Star and well, I ended up lending her one of my books and I think I started to befriend her a little bit, you know? That's... that's not a problem for you, is it?". Willow looked sideways slightly dreamily "Yes, the library was her favorite place even back then...". She regained her composure and spoke directly to Luz "And so you know the twins by now too. Luz, just because Amity has problems with me, I'm not mad at you for befriending her. After all, we're not toddlers who end friendships over such trifles... And I've told you before, I was friends with her myself once. So if it works out for you, I'm sure I won't be mad at you.". "Thanks Willow," Luz replied, "And hopefully you won't be mad at her either.". Willow looked to the side a bit again and said "No, there are other reasons... Anyway, I have to go home now, have fun trying the crystal ball." "Wait, one more thing!" shouted Luz after her, "what if her parents get it?" Willow laughed a little as she was already going, "Luz, most people here our age have their own crystal ball and Amity's family is rich, really rich. Amity, Emira and Edric will have one of their own and I'm sure their parents have at least one for personal matters and one for business. If you call Amity, I'm sure no one else will answer. So take care.". With that, she had said goodbye.

Luz found that she had stared at the ball long enough and now said, "Amity Blight, Blight Manor, Bonesborough." After only a short time, Amity spoke up. "Hello, who is this?" then she had seen Luz in her sphere. "Oh, hello Luz. What a... surprise.". Amity wasn't wearing her school uniform for once, but as far as Luz could see, a black shirt and a necklace with a purple pendant. "Yeah, you know, Willow explained to me how to use these things here, and after being banned from Hexside and not knowing how often you're in the library, I thought I'd give it a try.". Amity was visibly uncomfortable with Luz bringing up the events in Hexside, after all it was to a good extent her own fault that the day had ended in debacle. "Well anyway, I wanted to check in with you again to ask how you got through the night at the library," Luz interrupted Amity's thoughts, "and to ask where you were with the book I lent you." "Oh, actually it was quite fun, if we hadn't almost been killed," Amity said after a moment's thought. "And the book, well I had some work to do for school, so I probably won't be done with the book until the end of next week. Is that bad?". "Oh, no not at all.", Luz answered directly. Amity's joy was evident. "That's nice," she replied, "then do you want to meet me at the market at the end of next week so I can give it back to you?". "Yes, that sounds good," Luz said.

Before the moment was there to hang up, Luz thought of something else: "Oh, there is one more thing, Amity.".
"What is it?"
"Well, when we said goodbye after the night, there was something you wanted to think about. I don't want to push you at all, but have you possibly come to a solution there yet?".

Amity had understood what Luz was alluding to. "Yes, you're right. It was unfair of me to just call you a bully. Looking back at everything from a different perspective, I probably came across as pretty lousy for a long time, too. You're actually pretty nice and funny once you've been talked to. And you're the only one I know who's read the Azura books. And being friends with a human would definitely be an interesting experience too.". Luz wasn't sure if the last sentence even applied to her anymore, so she wanted to ask, "So we're friends now?". "I don't know how it is in the human realm," Amity replied, "but in ours, you're friends if you like each other or find each other congenial and hang out together and have fun. And I think we've had that. So, I guess we're starting to become friends and by the next adventure, I'm sure we'll be friends.". Luz noticed that Amity seemed more and more cheerful, as if the thought of befriending someone herself was something unusual for her. "Luz, I'm sorry, but I have to go. I have some work to do," Amity said. "No problem," Luz replied, "I'll see you next week at the market then, looking forward to it.", Luz replied and Amity logged off. Luz was glad about the conversation, now her circle of friends had expanded by a new person and somehow Luz felt that the relationship with Amity would become a very special one.

Notes:

I just wanted to add something in the relationship between Luz and Amity between the Events in "Lost and Language" and "Adventures in the Elements". While I don't find the arc completely rushed, I still missed a little conversation between them in the interim.

I don't know, who else thought that too. I actually have the Idea of writing some other little conversations like that wrapping around the episodes. But I don't know when I will update this series.
