It's honestly not what Yuuta Okkotsu is expecting the guy in front of him to say after just meeting him.
"So, Okkotsu, what type of girls do you like? Depending on your answer, I'll beat you half to death."
The giant who introduced himself as Aoi Todo is staring at Yuuta, intensely waiting for his answer. The girl beside him, Maki's twin sister Mai, is giving him a grin that's honestly scaring him a little.
"Um…?"
Yuuta gives a nervous laugh as he looks around, hoping some of the second and third years or even Gogo-sensei will suddenly appear. Being the only first year here already has him a little nervous. He wishes Inumaki, Panda, and Maki were here with him but unfortunately he was the only first year brought to compete here in Kyoto at this Goodwill Event. Gojo-sensei said they were only short one person and that Yuuta was the perfect choice to score a victory.
I knew I should have stayed with everyone.
Upon arriving at Kyoto Jujutsu Tech, the second and third years had gone off to mingle with their sister school's classmates. Yuuta, completely unfamiliar with this place, had hoped to stay with Gojo-sensei during the down time but unfortunately he'd gone off with the rest of the staff.
"Relax," he'd said with a laugh. "It's not like anyone's going to hurt you."
However, that didn't sound true after what Todo had just said.
After being left alone, Yuuta had decided to find the vending machines, grab a drink, find a bench, and wait for the event to officially start. However when he went to the vending machines he found a guy and a girl standing there talking with each other.
Feeling like he was intruding, he tried to leave but suddenly the guy turned toward him. Yuuta immediately froze as a huge grin formed on the guy's face.
"Well, well. So you're the first year that everyone was talking about."
Yuuta was confused by the comment and even more confused when the guy suddenly came up to him. He was a beast, muscular and tall with a noticeable scar on his left eye. With him standing right in front of him, Yuuta felt really small. He tightened his grip on his katana holster as he slinked back a little. This guy would definitely have beat him up in school.
"Um, yes? I-I'm Yuuta Okkotsu."
"Wait, so he's the one that's Maki's classmate?" asked the girl as she approached. She then gave him a quick once over. "He doesn't look very tough. With those bags under his eyes he looks like he'll drop dead any second." She gave him a mocking grin but Yuuta was less focused on the fact that he was being insulted than on the fact that she'd said the name of one of his closest friends.
"You know Maki?" he asked, an excited light in his eyes. Maybe he could make friends with someone who was friends with Maki.
Though he quickly learned that was not the case as the girl gave him a glare over his excitement. "Oh, are you close with that useless twin of mine?"
Twin? Yuuta had no idea Maki had a twin sister. Maki had never mentioned it and whenever it came to her family Yuuta tried not to ask too much.
Still he thought she'd have mentioned a twin though with the girl outrightly insulting Maki he guessed they weren't close.
Before Yuuta could answer her, the guy took a step closer to him. "Enough, Mai." He then turned his focus to Yuuta. "I'm Kyoto Second Year Aoi Todo." He then gave Yuuta a scary grin. "Let's see if you're as interesting as people make you sound."
Then he asked the question that currently has Yuuta frozen.
"So, Okkotsu, what type of girls do you like? Depending on your answer, I'll beat you half to death."
Yuuta is honestly not sure how to respond as it's probably the weirdest thing anyone he's just met has ever said to him. Though he's pretty sure if he doesn't answer this guy will hold good on that threat to beat him up.
"Um...what?" Best to buy time by acting like he didn't even know what was asked.
And it works. Todo's aura is no less intense but his crazed grin goes away and he takes a moment to explain his question. "A person's taste reveals everything about them. Guys who have boring tastes are boring and I don't like boring guys."
Then like he flipped a switch he's staring back at Yuuta with that full toothed grin. "So tell me Okkotsu, what type of girls do you like?"
With Todo looking at him like he's about to eat him and Mai looking at him like she would enjoy watching him be eaten, it's hard for Yuuta's brain to even begin to think of an answer so he can't help but tense up and close his eyes.
Argh, just say something! It shouldn't be a hard question. What kind of girl do you like? What girl do you like?
Then all of a sudden a flurry of images pass through his mind.
"Thought so. I'd totally pick on you too." Their first meeting.
"Pay attention." Watching her in battle for the first time.
"Okkotsu, seriously why'd you enroll at Jujutsu High?! What'd you want?! What'd you expect?!" The way she made him admit what he wanted in life.
"And you're dead. I win again." Every training outing where she beat him with a smile each time.
"I've got a bad personality. I want to become a grade one sorcerer to stick it to my family!" That smile on her face as she shared her own goals.
"Hey Yuuta! You okay?" Waking up and seeing that she was alive and well.
"Let's go." All time they've spent together since.
And just like that, Yuuta is hit with his answer. He opens his eyes and confidently looks at Todo who seems a little surprised by the change in his attitude.
"I like smart, strong-willed girls with glasses!" he announces.
He surprises himself by the confidence in his answer but he can't help but feel embarrassment wash over him at admitting it so openly so that confidence quickly melts away.
It's clear to him from her scowl that Mai knows exactly who Yuuta is thinking about. Yuuta's lucky that they aren't close or he could probably just shrivel up and die right there.
He looks back at Todo who appears to be deep in thought. When he cracks his knuckles, Yuuta is expecting a punch but instead Todo stuffs his hands in his pockets and gives him a look of curiosity. "Maybe you're not as boring as you look, Okkotsu."
With that Todo starts off and Mai starts to follow him but not before giving Yuuta a disgusted look.
Yuuta lets out a breath he didn't realize he was holding and makes his way to the vending machines. After grabbing a drink, he takes a seat on a bench and stares up at the sky. Realizing his feelings for Maki was definitely not something he had planned today.
"At least no one from the school was around to hear that," mumbles Yuuta to himself.
Unfortunately, a certain blindfolded idiot had been let out of his meeting and searching for Yuuta just in time to find him as he was confidently screaming his answer.
He could tease him about it but decided against it since Yuuta had just started building his confidence. So, he decides to just keep it to himself.
Though this would only make Yuuta really confused whenever Gojo paired the two of them up and gave him a wink everytime.
