Chapter 1: System smh

Chapter Text

Shen Yuan wasn’t the happiest person at the moment, dying to food poisoning wasn’t really on todays to do list. Not to say that dying wasn’t off his to do list all together. He just didn’t expect to die so soon, and in such a pathetic anticlimactic way! Who wants to die at age 21, as a hopeless shut in? A shut in who just finished reading the last chapter of the, in Shen Yuan’s opinion, shittiest novel to ever exist?

“Proud Immortal Demon Way'' was a novel set in a fantasy world where demons and cultivation actually existed. The protagonist was absolutely overpowered and enjoyed the pleasure of his Harem that numbered in the 300s. It was a stallion novel, the most popular one of the year. The main character was named Luo Binghe- a protagonist whose heart was hardened and painted black because of his lot in life. It had the makings of a decent novel and had introduced plenty of sub and overarching plots to keep readers hooked- the wide variety of flora and fauna included was also quite nice. That was why Shen Yuan kept reading the novel, all the way up to the very last chapter and his subsequent death- he had hoped the stupid author would at least fill up the plot holes. That the stupid author would fix his stupid glorified fan-service papapa filled ass novel-

[Activation Code: [stupid author, stupid novel] System booting up.]

Ok, that voice was new. Shen Yuan may not have the best time-tracking ability- but he was sure that he had been floating in a void for at least a day. Why hadn’t the voice spoken up sooner?

[ To answer your question, host, this system has been offline only until just a moment ago when the host spoke a variant of the activation key [stupid author, stupid novel]]

Oh. He wasn’t even aware he was speaking.

[You are not speaking aloud host, this system is in your head. I am here to guide you on your journey in another world! O(≧▽≦)O This system is very exited!]

Shen Yuan resisted the urge to yell and curse- because of course he would die and be stuck with a google translator-ass sounding disembodied voice?! How cruel could this world be?!

[This system urges the host to focus, time is of the essence. This system is of the [creation] model and can offer the host access to either a {Premade} or {custom} character. Please choose one.]

Yuan blinked, and then blinked. And then rubbed his eyes. Ok, so a glowing blue pop up screen really did just appear before him. Huh…

[If host does not choose soon this system will be forced to place the host within a premade character.]
“Custom! Custom!” Shen Yuan hurriedly pressed the {custom} option on the screen. He’d much rather be in the body of a character created by himself. What did they call those again? OCs?

[This System is happy that the host chose custom creation! This system has never had the opportunity to guide a custom creation before! (((o(*゚▽゚*)o)))]

Yuan refrained from rolling his eyes.

[If the host would turn his attention to the screen and fill out the required information as soon as possible this system would be grateful! If the host has any questions please do not be afraid to ask!]

The blue screen had the word “gender” printed in bold along the top and the words ;Boy, Girl, and Other/custom listed below. He clicked the boy option and the next part of the form faded in. The title of this page was “Class” and had the options; fortune teller, scholar, general, politician, teacher, gardener and assassin listed in one long vertical row. He immediately discarded the assassin class- he was not going to be a killer for hire.

Fortune teller, general, politician, and teacher classes were also swiftly rejected, Yuan was not a fan of knowing the future- what if he sees his own death!? Call him a coward but he did not want to witness that! (It did not cross his mind that he already witnessed his first death, nope, not at all.) The other three classes all sounded like so much work. Work that was tedious and did not at all play to his interests.

Gardener sounded nice- if a little monotonous. It would be a relaxing occupation to fill his time. But the Scholar class was also tempting. It sounded like quite a bit of work but if he wasn’t mistaken traditionally scholars were not only well read but also were proficient in the four scholarly arts. Growing up the second born son to a rich family afforded him quite a few luxuries- private lessons befitting the second ‘heir’ was one such luxury. So really all Shen Yuan would have to do is read a few books- and he liked reading.

But he could also just practice music and read during his free time as a gardener. “Hey- System was it? I have a question about the classes?”

[This System is ready to answer all of the Host’s questions!]

How eager, Yuan mused, maybe he was this system's first transmigration victim? “ As a scholar what would be required of me?” He asked.

[Well normally you would be required to learn and master the four scholarly arts. The guqin, the strategy game Go, calligraphy, and painting! But since the Host has already been exposed and learned these arts in the Host’s previous life the Host could do whatever he pleases! ] The system paused. Yuan was just about to speak again when the google sounding voice continued, [As a Scholar the Host could wander, teach, or indulge in hobbies! The host is really lucky to have been taught the arts in a previous life as this allows the host to not have to learn anything new!]

So, technically, since Shen Yuan already has the qualifications of a scholar and wouldn’t have to waste time learning new information he could slack off, relax, travel, and not be a shut in for once?! Sign him up! He quickly pressed the scholar option. When the glowing window faded from view instead of moving to the next part of the Character customization Yuan furrowed his brows and looked around confused.
