Work Text:
The sky is gloomy and everything is quiet. The only thing that Jimin can hear is his loud heartbeat and their breathing. It has been a year since they broke up but Jimin still feels the same way for Yoongi and the situation he is in right now totally confirms it. They are quietly walking side by side together on their way to his house. Min Yoongi has never lost his touch. The way he dresses us still makes Jimin’s heart panic. His gummy smile still makes his heart flutter. It took them a year to see each other again.
A year to realize how stupid they were for letting go of each other. A year to make them notice their own mistakes. A year full of regret.
“How are you?”
Jimin asked him without glancing his way. He was only looking down on his feet watching his step as the other looked at his side. His hands are inside the pockets of his jacket. For Yoongi, Jimin is still the same person he loved. No. Scratch that. HE LOVES. He still does and he thinks it will never change at all. He’s just too dumb to admit to himself how badly he wants him back in his life.
“I’m fine. How about you? Are you still doing those YouTube videos?”
Memories came flashing down on both of them. After being together for several years, they have made hundreds of videos. Yoongi is the cameraman as Jimin makes his vlogs and covers. They lived like that. Contented and happy college students. Until Yoongi graduated and got a job. Nobody knows who did wrong. Nobody understood what was wrong. They just suddenly felt suffocated. They felt the need for freedom because they thought they have been way too dependent on each other.
“I still do. It makes me happy. You don’t watch them anymore?”
A small hope has been trying to jump out from Jimin. He’s expecting him to say yes but at the same time, he doesn’t want to be disappointed. He wants to make it casual. To make it like nothing happened. That they are both okay. Everything is normal. He looked at the elder and he saw him smile shyly.
“I’ve been too busy with work even since I graduated. You do know how big that company is right?”
Of course, Jimin knows. His first few months with them almost made Yoongi not go home to their apartment. They were not meeting each other even though they shared the same roof. They didn’t even talk even though they are eating in the same table. It was all about work and Jimin felt like he was only a disturbance. An annoyance. He wants him back but surely, it’s still going to be that way.
“True enough. I hope they pay your overtime though.”
Jimin forced a laugh. Yoongi smiled. Jimin’s laugh isn’t that sincere but he misses it. He wanted to touch him right there and then. He wanted him back in his arms but he can’t. He thinks he is not enough for him anymore. He is scared that he might not be able to give whatever it is that Jimin needs. Attention, affection, and understanding. He is afraid to break his and Jimin’s heart. He wonders if Jimin feels the same way.
“I didn’t expect to see you in that coffee shop, Jiminie. I thought you moved somewhere.”
Jiminie. How he loved the way he calls him that. The only person who can make him blush whenever that name is called out to him.
“No. It’s hard to find an affordable place near that coffee shop. You know how much I love their caramel frappe.”
Jimin can afford any apartment he wants but of course, he will never admit it. He only stayed at the old apartment because he still holds on to those memories he had with Yoongi. Call him a sucker but cherishes every moment they had. Instead of relieving the pain, he continues to hold on to those happiness they had. The laughter they shared.
“Funny how I was craving for their iced americano at the exact same time you were there.”
Yoongi thinks of it as a coincidence but for Jimin it was fate. Destiny has been playing with them. As they turn right, they both walked slower than they did. Both of them did not want the moment to be finished. If only there was a longer route towards Jimin’s place, they would gladly take it. The wind blew and the rain started to fall. They both looked up at the sky as they felt raindrops kissing their skin. Yoongi tried to shelter Jimin under his jacket but the younger was fast enough to grab his hand and pull him towards the nearest waiting shed. A sudden spark ran through their hands but all they could think of is how it feels right to be holding one another once again. Their hands fit perfectly together just like how they both used to be.
“I think I have an umbrella here.”
Jimin lets go of Yoongi’s hand to rummage his bag. He felt empty. His touch is warmer than before. Softer than it ever was. Or did he just miss him? Yoongi looked at Jimin silently memorizing every detail. His full and plump lips pouting, his slightly messed up hair, that nose he had been pinching before, and those piercings.
“Did you add another ear piercing?”
Yoongi said out loud what was on his mind making the younger look at him and smile. Damn those eyes that go crescent whenever he is smiling.
“I got another two for both ears. It was painful but worth it.”
He raised his hand showing off his umbrella to him. The same umbrella they used before. Yoongi looked like he lost some weight. Seems like he has been working harder than before. Jimin wanted to take care of him again just like he used to. Make simple meals for him just to make sure he eats on time. What has Yoongi been doing? He sighs as he opened his umbrella and pulled Yoongi towards him.
“You sure you really want to drop me home? It’s raining Yoonie. You might get sick."
Yoongi is happy. Jimin still knows that he gets sick easily and is still worried about him but he won’t waste the opportunity to walk him home. He took the umbrella from the younger and led the way. Jimin stood close to him as they walked silently. When they turned left, Jimin tripped. Yoongi was fast enough to catch him.
“You’re still as clumsy as ever Jiminie.”
He chuckled. Jimin didn’t even argue but smacked the elder on his arm. He still knows when and what to tease him. He doesn’t hate it. He loves it. All those times they teased each other ends up in cuddles. But not today. Not anymore. Jimin clung to Yoongi in order for him not to get wet from the rain. Yoongi wrapped him around his arm and held him close. They are still comfortable in each other’s arms. No matter how much they wish to stay like that a little longer, they are already in front of Jimin’s place.
“So, I guess this is where we part?”
Yoongi scratched behind his ear smiling at Jimin. The younger nodded giving him the sweetest smile he can offer. He wants him to stay for a while longer but he surely knows Yoongi still has lots of work to do and he doesn’t want to bother.
“You can keep the umbrella. We don’t want you soaking wet when you go back to work.”
That shy smile Yoongi has on his face right now was the reason he first fell in love with him. The way he scratches his ear or he covers his face whenever he is shy. Jimin loves everything about him. He is his. He is sure. Yet too scared to admit. But it seems like he’s the only one who feels that way. If only Yoongi would want him back, he gladly will.
“I’ll return this to you when I see you next time. Thanks, Jimin.”
They both stood there looking at each other as if waiting for one of them to make the first move. They both laughed and that’s when Jimin offered him a hug. He missed him. A lot. True home is in Yoongi’s arms and not in this empty apartment he is coming to. Jimin’s warmth is Yoongi’s solace. He hates to admit it but he wants him back. They let go of each other feeling a tiny bit of happiness filling their hearts.
“Goodbye Jiminie.”
“Bye Yoonie.”
Yoongi walked away with a smile on his face. He is determined to make things right and make sure he will get him back the next time he sees him. Not now when everything is a mess. He doesn’t want to commit the same mistake he did before. Jimin deserves everything.
“I’m sorry Yoongi but there is no next time.”
Jimin went inside his apartment with a heavy heart. He is glad that he was able to be with him even for a short period of time. He walked towards the table and picked up an envelope. Opening it, he took out the contents and smiled sadly. He was taking a look around the apartment when his phone rang. His bestfriend is calling him.
“Yes Tae, I’m still here. No need to pick me up. I’ll be there at the airport in an hour. Our flight for California won’t leave in 4 hours so chill.”
When he ended the call, he grabbed the paper on top of the envelope.
‘JOB CONTRACT’
California and a contract. Plane ticket, passport, and visa. All his things have been gathered up but not his emotions. All of these don't sound anything like Yoongi.
