Dean grumbles, pushing his head up and blinking his eyes open. He just wraps his arms tighter around Sam, squeezing him closer to his chest. “Don’t be like that, Sammy. Didn’t you miss your big brother while he was away hunting?”
Even though Sam tries to turn his head away, Dean can see the flush rising to his cheeks. It’s always so easy to fluster Sam, it’s one of his favourite hobbies. He blushes from the tips of his ears to his cheeks, down his neck and under the collar of his shirt. Dean wishes he could see. “You were only gone for, like, a day. I saw you yesterday.”
Dean is maybe a little too drunk and, really, Sam is asking him to come in with the light spilling out from under his door.

Summary
Dean Winchester is 19, has a useless leg, and a 15-year-old brother to look after.
A year and a half after the car accident, Dean is now Sam's legal guardian, working construction to make ends meet. Sam, meanwhile, harbors resentment toward his father that he doesn't know how to overcome and suffers from headaches he tries to ignore.
Everything falls apart when Sam collapses. The hospital is the place Dean fears most, and the relationship between the brothers is more fractured than ever.
In the midst of the chaos, Dean meets Castiel, a shy, blue-eyed boy who volunteers at the hospital. Cas is patient, kind, and seems to see beyond the masks Dean has built. Without asking for anything in return, Cas becomes an unexpected source of support, helping Dean cope with his memories, find moments of calm amidst the torment, and remember that he doesn't have to carry the burden alone.
But Dean doesn't know how to accept help. Sam doesn't know how to apologize. And time is running out.

He grins widely at Dean when he catches the older boy staring, entirely unperturbed by his brother’s weird behavior. His eyes are closed in delight before Dean can even muster up a smile back, but it’s of no offense to the bigger boy. He loves to be able to watch his brother so intently without a care in the world.
