Summary
On a cold morning in 2525, just two months before a thousand clones will storm the Jedi Temple, Dr. Leopold Falk finds his former political rival, Dr. Roland Fairchild, in an empty United Nations Trusteeship Council chamber; studying the dusty visage of a teak wood sculpture exhaling Solar humanity’s resentment of empires, hands buried in his suit trousers' pockets. Falk can only presume what his arch-frenemy is thinking on the hour they are both about to combine their efforts and reverse over half a millennium of anti-colonialism in an afternoon. In this moment, before they change the fate of the galaxy, Falk realizes the truth of his life's work: that the problem with idealism is that it often fails, and the danger of realism is that it sometimes works.
