Sirius could tell you the real moment their relationship ended. The moment Remus's love for him really died, and he turned back to the true love of his life Nymphadora Tonks.
It was years before they officially ended things. Sirius should have ended things there, said his goodbyes, cut his loses, all that crap normal people do when their boyfriends go out and cheat on them with their ex-wives. But Sirius didn't do that. No Sirius decided to ignore Remus's behavior. Letting him and Tonks think Sirius was ignorant to their affair. Sirius honestly thought the only reason Remus didn't go back to Tonks was because of money. Sirius had plenty of it and Remus well, before he met Sirius he was living paycheck to paycheck. Sirius knows he being used. Knew he was a means to an end, but he stayed.

Sirius has always stayed for others. He's never really lived a life for himself. After everything he's lost, he can't turn his back on his relationship with Remus, even if it's hurting him to stay, but staying is the only way he can protect Teddy. And Sirius has never known a life where he hasn't dedicated himself to others.
