The first person she sees when they come back is Laura Lee. The sun reflecting on the blonde girl's hair makes she look like a God. To all of them she kind of is, either a God or an angel. Jackie immediately runs into their savior's arms, she can't contain how happy she is to see the one who managed to rescue them. Laura Lee smiles, and everything is alright. Jackie finally feels at peace.
Later that night, their team, the family the wilderness built for them, threw a party to celebrate. Jackie, who couldn't keep her eyes off Laura Lee the whole night, takes the religious' girl hands and drags her to the corner, away from the other Yellowjackets.
"Y'know, what you did was really really brave, Laura Lee. If it weren't for you-"
"I just did what I felt was right."
"See, you didn't hesitate for a second before flying that plane without knowing if it would work. Acts of bravery like these deserve a reward. Let me give our hero their reward, please?"
Laura Lee frowns not sure what Jackie means by "reward", but then their captain leans closer breaking the space between them. Jackie softly touches Laura Lee's cheeks and whispers "can I?" into her ears. She doesn't wait for a second after LL's nod accepting, inviting her lips for what is the religious' girl first kiss. Jackie is so delicate with her, she doesn't want it to end.
"Was it okay?"
"More than okay. It's the best thing that happened to me in a very long time."
Jackie smiles proudly and caresses Laura Lee's golden hair.
"And I promise you it won't be the last."
It's so good to be back home. To be together again, both girls think hopefully looking into each other's eyes.
